The NI/ROI Protocol

Latest is that Lizzie has commandeered a tank, and is at this very moment, tracking up the beach at Dunkirk, and expects to smash through the Elysee Palace, at midnight! That will get the Frog sorted and a message to Brussels.

It's an awfully grim prospect for peace and democracy to have a the representatives of the main terrorist murder gang in government in the Republic, holding the hand of itself in OFDFM as co-guarantor of the peace deal. It's a twisted and sick thing.
I don't think there are many if any former members of the IRA involved in Sinn Fein in the republic. It's a drum that was banged so much they did a clear out. They will be the biggest party after the next general election barring a major upset, they would be the biggest party now if they ran more candidates the last time around.

The vast majority of young political talent are in Sinn Fein and Fine Gael and those people have zero affiliation to any form of terrorism. The GFA/BA was a long time ago.

SF have completely destroyed Fianna Fail and that party will join Fine Gael in some way as they are effectively the same moderate party.
SF will be in power regularly going forward, you'll have to get used to it.

You obviously don't understand what Sinn Fein is then. Of course they have an affiliation to terrorism, and a particularly brutal and sadistic one at that. They represent a party which is directed from the top down by terrorists who have been 'on a break' from shootings, torturings, bombings and mafia crime for a few years. They do not apologise for the crimes of their leaders and colleagues, and they actively shelter them from prosecution. I haven't denied that they may form a government. I've only pointed out how revolting a prospect it is for the peaceable people of the Republic to elect such a lawless and evil group. On the whole, it's obviously an extremely negative thing for reconciliation in Northern Ireland, and shafts any hope peaceful nationalists had of persuading Unionists to join their idea of a new Ireland.

I know full well about the history of the party and it's standing in the North. I'm just making the point that it is loaded with young politicians that genuinely don't have any affiliation to the IRA. I went to college with a SF councillor and the only reason she is a member is because it's the best vehicle to carry her where she wants to go. Her family were staunch FF supporters. They have gone clean at the lower levels and the older heads are being filtered out. I'm not trying to convince you to vote for them or anything.

On your last point, I don't think anyone has any plans to convince unionists to change their minds. It's a delusional stance I think as it would be to convince a nationalist to become a unionist. I have said similar in another post, it's a numbers game. If it's going to happen it will be on the back of a nationalist vote or undecided voters.

Generally there is less and less support for it in the republic but I imagine sentimentality would drive a vote home if it happens in the next 25 years.

The young reps might well not have anything to do with terrorism, but they know what they are part of, and what they are covering for. It's to do with integrity. You couldn't pay me any amount of money, or offer me the best of career prospects to be in an organisation that covers for the UVF or UDA, and thankfully unionist voters largely ignore/reject the representatives of such at the ballot box. I just don't believe covering for brutal terrorism and criminality is the mark of a just society. The Republic is sliding into a depraved mindset when it elects them as governors over their people.

I understand. Your stance would be mirrored by a significant amount of people here too.

Both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael were born from the old Sinn Fein party and were staffed by those who the British considered terrorists. It's been done before.

Indeed it's been done before. Germany elected thugs to government at a time, and it didn't end well. The similarities are striking and worrisome, especially for the minority the thugs want to remove. The world has seen the banner McDonald walked behind in NYC.

Well, well, well. Do you not think that to half the globe or more, Britain was nothing more than a terrorist organisation, which plundered and slaughtered it‘s way to it’s empire status? That’s the thing with empires, you need brute military force to build it. To those on the receiving end, it’s unadulterated terrorism.
What greater terrorist was there to the British state than Michael Collins? He ruthlessly destroyed the British intelligence apparatus in Dublin. Their most wanted man in the empire. If he was alive today, he would be a fully paid up and participating member of Fine Gael and would be in government in Dublin, chatting perhaps daily with British government counterparts.
We have to accept that SF is in its way to governance in ROI, as well as in NI.

That puts the younger SF members in a similar position as the last generation or so of DUP reps then.

Well they did ally themselves in World War 2.
They did but come on, they are or were socialists. Enemy of my enemy type deal. One or more of the IRA's anyway. Of all the things to accuse them of, calling them Nazis is ridiculous!

I'm not even talking about the inference that they will exterminate a minority? Is that something you actually believe @The Agrarian ?
