The not started yet thread

10.3 here then rain but very green straw only2 weeks since desiccation

last year rape all done and 2 days into wheat by now but this year no graftan
shame there are not more super early varieties need one with obm resistance
just have to get used to waiting a bit longer
but now not planning on much osr and notill so only cover crops to plant before wheat a week later for cover crops is not a big issue financially
good to here plenty of other have not been impatient

Is it just me ? Facebook, Twitter and TFF full of combine pictures working in ideal conditions yet we are still a few days from starting OSR here - Monday most likely

Weather like this is testing patience - am I the only farmer in the uk not started yet ?
@Clive It's entirely your own fault for having your soils in such good condition. If you had left well alone, continued to plough, not grown cover crops and incorporated them your crops would have died off weeks ago! (Just off to bath to read last chapter of "that" book. Probably the most significant agricultural book I have ever read and will have major impact on my farming until I retire and beyond (along with Gabe Browns.) Thanks for the tip off:):):):):):):):):):)

A late decision to get rid of the old wood grain walls for concrete ones in the barley store and work on the combine taking 3 times as long as expected, meant we hadn't cut anything.

Neighbours have all had their WB and now well into OSR.

I can promote myself to the "Havest 2019" as we made a start this eve

56 acres of barley cut 13% was the lowest normally unheard of in durham but p×××××g it down now 1.5 inches today already not a good forecast for the next 2 weeks

Well I ve also moved to "harvest 2019" as looking at revised weather forecast for next week decided to get on. Not ideal as had to move combine 16 miles at lunchtime, boy the amount of traffic! Had to fetch trailer also after so was 4.30pm before I started on barley, 12.6 % and seems to be yielding well. No idea of weights as not normal trailer but it's a 12tonne Boughton with 6 ft high sides and got 5 and and a bit loads off a 15ac field and big rows of straw also.

Got 30 odd acres of barley knocked off before it rained.

The barley was coming off between 12 and 14.5% but the straw wasn't fit to bale.
It was hell of a yield, gotta have been doing 4.2t+

Now we've got 30 odd acres of wet straw!

Rained steadily all day yesterday and it’s raining again now. Combine back under cover. Very frustrating at the moment. Ground conditions are getting seriously wet. Heard of one big combine stuck locally. What surprises me is the amount of people combing OSR on Facebook. I thought the crops were knackered by beetles in the south and east .

Started rape late Wednesday 5.9% went back Thursday morning it was 6.5%. Then drum belt snapped while fitting a new one saw water pouring from the water pump. New one arrived Friday morning and before we finished fitting it the rain started and haven’t stopped since 30mm. Since Friday and still going

I would not like the job of combining a lot of crops in the borders and East Lothian there are some fields were the only standing crop is in the tramlines , not looking good up here with the weather we have been having
