I remember those days, answerfone (americanism) messages and primetime evening farmer calling at 6-7.30pm to organise the days & week ahead
Good old days

Sunday evening was always beet haulage planning. Now it's a call on your mobile 10 minutes before he rolls up because he has been stuck in a queue at a mill all day through no fault of his own. Different times.

Certainly was and remember it, if you didn't ring at the farmer's usual preferred time of day, then that was it.......you'd missed your chance and the farmer would be out for the rest of the day

Funnily enough that always worked ok in the 1980's/1990's and maybe today we're too available and as such, get less done

You need to get decent radios with Bluetooth in your tractor and combine.
Two things we did after buying the 20 yr old combine were fitting a camera on the back, and a decent radio with speaker. Conversations can be heard easily above the hum of the TX, and I often ring friends just for a chat, late in the evening when combining.

I make a point of replying to texts in full gramatically correct English and I try to do the same on here.
Whilst my stammer is under control I do prefer to contact people by text rather than a quick call.
It also means I have a record of what was asked and answered.

Only the one rep is brave/foolhardy to come out thisaway. He's a lovely young man, and will go far. His English is excellent, his grammar unsullied by marketing speak, so I've no complaints.

What amuses no end about reps who cold call at certain times of year is being able to ask, "Look, are you aware that you've reached the obstetrical unit?", and listen for the gibber from the other end of the line as the slightly distorted sounds of newborn lambs sink into the caller's consciousness.

I'm just grateful if it starts and runs. The others trimmings are a bit further down the priory list.

Today I hung up on one rep from a company after warning him before that I don’t tolerate phrases such as “touch base” and “going forward” etc. This follows on from telling another to leave the yard for dumbing down the queens English and using poor Americanism’s and American phrases.

Each to their own I suppose but that said, I want to be spoken to in plain basic English and given no fancy patter and spiel to make them sound very dynamic and efficient. Luckily they’re are a few old school reps etc I can deal with that are doing it properly. The new wave of up and coming sales people and people calling in or on the phone leave a lot to be desired.

Am I in a minority for detesting this sort of language and taking such actions?

You really need some chill time to think outside of the box and do some blue sky thinking. Maybe take a vacation in the US where you could rent an automobile.

Seriously you need to relax!

Yea, just chillax and take some time out, you will then be able to give 110% and be laser focused, this will prevent you from getting behind the 8 ball.

Yeah, and, in the early days, there was only one in the house and for some unfathomable reason it's location was in the hall, under the stairs:banghead: which meant taking your boots off:facepalm: or in my dad's case, laying a trail of newspaper from the kitchen to take the call:rolleyes:
