I read somewhere that Bor is a shortening of neighbour, and written therefore as 'bor.
Not sure how true that is as i'm originally a "furriner" too.
It's more like 'Bwo' this far south. I don't know whether there's a distinct change over line, or whether it's graduated.
I never use anyone's name to their face, it saves the embarrassment of faltering when I've forgotten it!

Most people call me by my surname, or a variation of it anyway, often not realising that it's not my forename.
Facebook has spoilt that a bit, it's too easy to find out details now  not that it worries me, I've got nothing to hide!

That would of course date from the times when gay meant happy and queer meant strange.

..which is this then?

...........he knew gay burglars had been round because they re-arranged the cushions......(lol)

I’m not insistent on starched collars but I do consider ties appropriate.

I can think of two young machinery reps In this area. One is always well turned out, clean shoes, jacket, shirt and tie. He looks presentable and professional. The other wears shoes that haven’t seen any polish since the day they were bought and generally appears somewhat unkempt. This one is starting at a serious disadvantage in my case.
In my opinion, if you are selling premium equipment, you should dress and conduct yourself accordingly. I have no desire to be called “mate” by any representative.
A tie? Are you serious or taking the p!ss?
I tend to judge people by how they act not by what they wear or how they speak.
Never really considered it too much before but in the last couple of days, due to this thread I have taken a bit more notice of how sales staff either greet me or what term they use when I have paid and walk out the door. I have been called mate, bro, bud and honey. None of them gave me offence, in fact being called honey by an attractive female 20 years younger than me was quite endearing.

I'm probably of the age that are being lambasted on here but personally as long as people are polite, friendly and honest that's all that matters. If someone can get this wound up about 'management speak' and things like 'touch base' then Christ they must be an awkward sod to do business with.
And I probably use 'management speak' like that but I've never been told to or has a lesson on that way of talking, language evolves and my generation speak like that, altering ones complete way of talking for an awkward bugger is hardly worth the effort I wouldn't have thought.

Absolutely serious, it’s all about standards.
My late mother took great exception to representatives who might be at the kitchen table doing business with my father who did not stand up to acknowledge mother if she entered the room. A gentleman should always stand to acknowledge and meet a lady.
