The Relationship between SFI and CSS ?

I hope @Janet Hughes Defra realises that with the average age of a farmer being 59, not all of us are whiz-kids enough to fully understand all the ins and out of computers. Often getting fed up with going round in circles trying to find the correct thing we are looking for. We are busy people and just haven’t got time to spend hours searching for things on line all day.

That also includes the DEFRA links that are put up to show us various things to to do with ELMs. I just don’t have time to read them, let alone all of them.

Ironically, one thing is absolute for sure: Had PC’s and mobile phones not been invented, IACS, SPS, BPS, CS and any of ELMs would never have been invented!

……Unfortunately, TFF also !!

I have just been looking up Mid Tier Capital Items. Webpage after Webpage. I was hoping for a book to download (like the old days) but no it is all links. And all the pages blur into looking the same - is like maze. I have taken to having a notepad and writing down the heading of each page and taking photos, so I can retrace my steps. I feel as though am in the Matrix. Hey ho.

It's like filling in the bloody grant forms online. You need at least 2 computers running... I like using 2 laptops and have been known to have a 10" tablet open as well, with guidance notes!!

That's the issue I had. I confess to not trying the search, I had got fed up by the time I'd gone through a lot of irrelevant pages.

I have now seen the appropriate pages and as I thought, there's nothing there to interest me currently.

@Janet Hughes Defra

Sorted now this time thank you.

Perhaps we could be given direct links in future. And can we PLEASE have the information sent to all emails registered with RPA under our SBI.
OK thanks - I've noted this feedback and will make sure we act on it for the next round of communications

Yes, I v much do realise that - we're designing the new schemes to be as straightforward as possible (including learning from the pilot - we're making some significant changes based on the feedback we've had so far about the guidance and paperwork for that). We test what we're designing with farmers and improve it / make it more straightforward on that basis - if you'd be up for getting involved in that, please get in touch.

Thanks Janet,
Yes, I’d like to get involved.
The trouble is that we are in a Mid tier CS agreement.
I say this, but in fact, our old agreement ended 31/12/21 and we haven’t heard as to whether or not our new agreement from 1/1/22 will start!
On top of which, we haven’t been paid yet for the the final year of our 2021 agreement, which is very annoying!
Especially as I have Supplementary Bird Food in stock, but cannot use it until or unless we get that payment.

Janet, I am now a 61 year old, one-man-band Working Farm Manger on a 330ha arable and farmed deer farm, which to say the least, keeps me busy! CS was (and is) an absolutely perfect option for me and the owners of this farm.
When I first heard of ELMs, I was very excited about it all and have made and taken several major steps ahead of it happening. Including partially converting this farm to Direct Drilling, to see if it and where it will work or not. It is encouraging, but not going to be everyone’s choice.
I’m thrilled that you have personally joined TFF to explain ELMs. However, I must say that I have become increasingly frustrated in a lot of what you have mentioned re LR and LNR.

I’d love to get further involved to see and learn the practicalities of it all and to help me and Defra learn what will work and what won’t. Not just on this farm, but all other farms.

Please could you or one of your team PM me to discuss further and see if a pilot scheme might be feasible and possible?

Regards, Two Tone.

Hello Janet, just stumbled on to this post , however there seems some synergy to be had.
As a UK science based SME with four years global R&D in the soil and water technology for agriculture sector, today we are focused on reducing soil erosion and diffuse pollution, we have provided feedback several times to DEFRA since 2018. I would like to offer help with form design and protocols as it is our mission context, to bring ubiquitous innovation to farmers and government in unison. From an UKRI-IUK grant in 2021 we have developed a Circular Economy pathway for technology "adaptation" (COP 26 request), for improved management of Soil and Water in Agriculture. We have filed many funding requests over the years and see a clear simplification method ahead, which will improve upon the present .gov.uk templates used.

You can reach me direct at [email protected]
Thanks
Christian J Murray
