The shame of the English

Anyone who is not French can apply to become a French Citizen but it takes 5 years residence plus submission of evidence, interviews and demonstration of fluent usage of the French Language.

Read carefully the link you have posted,

Citizen/resident- different permits

I said why hadn't you applied to be a citizen .. not resident.

Residency is just the fact you are working in a place for 182+ days in one country possibly in a hotel, caravan or tent. It relates to taxes not rights.

A resident in Belgium can't even use the library.

Have you been drinking? When haven't I flagged up your mistakes and ignorance before? :scratchhead: (there have been many, many occasions)

Ok, I’m pretty bored with you, so briefly.
WD said he was English. My réponse was to say, I say I’m British, leaving the possibility of not being English. You brought « UK » into it.
Oh, I make plenty of mistakes and I guess ignorance is relative. I’m not so insecure to need to attempt to say otherwise.
How about you?

Correct, but we weren't talking about that as you well know.

What a lot of left-liberal self (i.e. UK) hating rubbish. Fortunately the vast majority of us aren't like you lot, you do scream and shout, make banners, organise 'workshops' and have demo's, many are 'activists' too... :ROFLMAO:

While the rest of us get on, we vote, and we do our duty as necessary, while you carp and snipe, and go on marches too no doubt, for 'democracy'. Prigs, liars and hypocrites the lot of you, I doubt that any of you have the slightest idea of the real value of this country. Horribly - for you - a British poet summed it up rather well, 'What does he know of England, who only England knows?' (Sadly, it seems Kipling couldn't get a rhyme for UK to work... :woot:)

The utter hypocrisy of you position is astonishing, all of these 'faults' you see in the UK are there with interest in many, in fact very probably, most other countries - but our sins are always blacker than theirs, aren't they? Take a squint at your beloved Europe past and present, individually and collectively, and then come and admit that the UK is no worse than any and far better than most - not that you've the moral courage to do so.
Well, my my...What a lot of generalizations and assumptions. Where shall I start? The middle seems reasonable.

I (and I am sure I am not alone in having done so) quoted Kipling a few weeks ago. Let's start with that: 'what does he know of England, who only England knows' was directed at little Englanders with no experience of nor interest in other countries or cultures. I completed my degree in England and the Soviet Union. My day job for the past several decades has been conducted ca. 85% in, on average 3 and up to 7 different European countries. I speak 8 European languages (including English). My academic work (now limited) takes place here and with EU academic institutions. (Having said that I have only once, and then only briefly, travelled farther afield; that saddens me because travel and meeting people from other cultures is what broadens the mind.

I see no mileage in comparing past sins of any country; generations change, thankfully. But my point has always been that (for any number of reasons) ON THE WHOLE Britain, the UK but perhaps especially England has retained an overarching sense of exceptionalism and the sense that 'we have nothing to learn from them'. As always such generalizations (and they are my opinion - but that is exactly what WD asked me to state) are unfair since we are all individuals but, this really, really stands out and has done so for decades.

Next, I don't know on what basis you call me a liar or a prig (but sticks and stones etc.) Nor do I see how it is hypocritical - I do not ignore bad behaviour (my own included), prejudice, historical crimes etc. in others but I was not asked to do here.

Finally (there would be more but I can't be arsed anymore) I am not a liberal (nor a Liberal) and I do not hate myself. I do not even hate the UK (I am incredibly saddened by what it is becoming though). I do always vote. I do go on marches when needed.

Oh...and in passing...I only listed my languages as an example of 'knowing more than England'. I did not include knowledge of Latin and certainly would see no need to pepper my mosts with witty aphorisms in Latin.

Over to you, though I doubt whether I shall continue this delightful conversation.

Why should I give those who chose to slander my nationality any credance .. I couldn't give a rat's bottom what you want .. you ain't getting any support EVER.
where have I slandered your nationality?
didn't ask for your support and certainly don't want it..
simple question for you. no need to get your knickers in a twist!
why do you feel offended that countries like Scotland and Wales want independence ?

Both spend most of their time denying democracy in the UK whilst pushing their own self serving agenda.

Why shouldn't everyone treat them in exactly the same way.

The SNP want to deny democracy in the UK .. then I'll deny their rights in Scotland. Two can play that game.

So you’d be better off with out us but you’d rather be spiteful and keep us.
Great example of English mentality there..
