No reason whatsoever, if common sense prevails. At the moment the doom mongers predict closed ports, and no exports to the EU. That also means no imports..... I'm sure the likes of Spanish growers are lobbying the EU to make sure they've still got access to UK markets. Why?

Or are the ports only going to be a one way system ?

I see irony. This is typical Brexiteer scaremongering, Dover wont close , just as now the officers will be in their fancy offices drinking tea , while all the lorries rumble off the ferries and out of the tunnel straight up the M2 carrying all and sundry cheap veg, butter, milk, you name it.
Meanwhile in Calais their opposite numbers in their own offices will be drinking wine and laughing at the Rost Boef lorries queuing up behind the barrier, haveing a game of cards to decide if Anfre or Pierre will take next turn to order the turn out of the the head of the queue, in case there is a lamb carcass hidden in the latest load of Ford engines destined for Cologne. Perhaps tomorrow they will check the next one, this is France.

About sums it up. If you don't want customs union and free trade you have a border with customs officers who fill out forms and inspect loads. Nobody stopping anything, but it gets delayed in a mountain of inspections and paperwork.

The french "truckers" routiers as they are called in france and the farming union "federation" generally work together, so youll get your strawberries dont worry, You think how youll get your fresh veg into the aldi and lidl distribution centres in europe when there is a quota on the number of british lorries running in europe,Best of luck with that, we know what happens when truckers in France get fudged off....

Good news for UK growers then. No, ‘he’, along with many others, has a sales team in the rapidly developing eastern countries of the EU looking for new markets.
The controls checks and customs will be on goods entering, not leaving, the EU. Hence EU producers can supply new and old customers simply and quickly,Has everyone forgotten TIR ? Still exists, had nothing to do with the EU and will be used by companies to avoid customs delays.
Its funny how remainers say we will take a long time to develop new trade but eu members will do it straight away .

If you have ever used the system the financial guarantees work for multi loads of the same goods at a static value, but for single loads are expensive and if you undervalue, and are caught, you loose everything,TIR only covers International trade where sealed containers may pass through one country to reach it’s destination in a third. So UK containers headed for Russia should not be held up by customs checks at Calais , Antwerp, Hamburg etc.
However this trade is quite limited in quantity as most of our trade in this area, either departs , directly say to the US, China, etc or indirectly through seaports such as Rotterdam on board ships.
Our trade safegaurded through TIR arrangements through Calais etc are quite limited. The EU is regarded as a single customs area for TIR so checks will still be made at Calais for through shipments to Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and many others.
