One thing is for sure.
The ferries won't sail unless they are loaded. Whichever way they are headed.

And the TIR documentation will tell the french customs just which ones to check,This single port of entry for the EU will actually work to reduce the loading on UK roads as UK ports were favoured by many countries for access to Europe. The reason being we were considered very lax in checking product and ensuring the correct Taxes duties etc were taken the EU purse. Many in the rest of Europe considered the treatment given to goods from the Far East was far too lax and many items were imported as one thing when in fact they were other goods on which duties levied should have been in a far higher band. This particularly applied to low value clothing etc. When declared values were sometimes only a few pounds per tonne, a ridiculous rate for fashion goods. Brussels has frequently complained to the UK and I do believe there is an on going court case around it.
It is certain that French and other customs will now take a very harsh view on any consignment of these coming via the UK, consequentially there will be no gain for the importers to channel these through the UK and clogging our roads to Felixstowe.
