The spring that time forgot.......

We're used to crap springs in Crapweathershire.
But this takes the biscuit.
Usually manage to maul something in by now.
Ho-hum. Always next year, I suppose........

Dont be daft. Forecast a bit better after today. You and I will both be drilled up by the 20th. I did 25 acres yesterday which would have been 40 if not had a breakdown.

When the weather is right ill start at 5am and finish at 8pm and be done in 3 days. Its frustrating but not end of the world - yet. Remember last years dry spell?

Now is the time for looking for duals all round ( :nailbiting: ) on the combine, tractors and trailers for all this spring barley and beans to be harvested in November. :(

Oh, and spend all June trying to buy old season straw before people realise that there's going to be bugger all straw length and sod all baled in October. :(

It's bad enough to finish spring 2018 using £120 worth of straw a day to produce £80 of beef (averaged over year), but to start winter 2018 the same way is a bit of a pisser.

30 suckler cows anyone? :cautious::unsure:

I know a man making bale chasers has more orders than he can cope with before harvest, so everyone is looking to cash in on the straw prices, but the straw is going to be very short in the leg so the bulk isn't going to be there to chase. How long in the (late) season before the choppers go into gear and the next crop needs to be in?

I hope I'm wrong. It has been known. :oops:

Hawthorne’s aren’t even in bud yet....sad times
That's the rub here, temperature is fine, hawthorn coming into leaf, swallows back, all the flowers coming (even fritillaries), the songbirds getting randy and it's still pis*y wet with more to come. :arghh:

Barley straw this year ? I bought in about 30% more than usual last time because of a good price and thinking ahead, :smug:; should have filled every last corner with the stuff & tarped a stack outside too... :banghead:

Nature has no calendar and daffodils are only just starting to flower here

50ac in yesterday - lot more to go yet but it WILL get done, it always does
You'd want a hovercraft to drill anything here this week. Or any other week so far this year.

Still, good job you boys can get on, you can sell us some cheap straw for next winter:rolleyes:
