We're used to crap springs in Crapweathershire.
But this takes the biscuit.
Usually manage to maul something in by now.
Ho-hum. Always next year, I suppose........

I've just had a look to see where SA62 is, and have to say looking at the Google aerial images, it looks fine country. Everything west of that line from Fishguard to haverfordwest and below has plenty of arable, and little rushes that I could spot. Plenty of rushes in my part of the world and very very little cereal.

If we moved from Northern Ireland to Crapweathershire we would think we were in heaven. This bad spring they are having is what we call normal! I wish it was dry enough to worry about drilling, at the moment it isn't dry enough to spray, never mind spread dung, plough and drill.

Right enough, I've got a wee list that looks like that too!

It's a batch of winter barley stubbles from last year that couldn't be got near after harvest. Well, I did try the driest one actually, to stitch in grass, which failed. And dad enjoyed telling me he told me so. A few times.;)

It's pretty dry and intend to spray it this morning. Weather looks good for Sunday to Wednesday. Should allow ground to skin and get something done.

Dont be daft. Forecast a bit better after today. You and I will both be drilled up by the 20th. I did 25 acres yesterday which would have been 40 if not had a breakdown.

When the weather is right ill start at 5am and finish at 8pm and be done in 3 days. Its frustrating but not end of the world - yet. Remember last years dry spell?
Was this a wined up ? I’ve lost my sense of humour recently so can’t tell!

No it wasn't. We live in the same area and we will both be drilled up by the 20th. And my point was end of May last year spring crops barely covered the ground as it was dry. So it may end up parity. We had crap august here last here too - so maybe if that is nicer we may get a bit more yield on the tail end of the barley and spring wheat

Even with the longer days it’s wetter than its been all winter

I get what you’re say but there’s been no chance of any type of drilling in my area yet .
One day last week it was dry and windy and the tops of the clarts started to dry! Then it rain once more Sunday (cold) and Monday were dry days but after a full day of heavy rain on Tuesday it’s been wet and foggy since with no let up here until Sunday. I think it will take a full week of decent weather be anyone could do anything around me .
In the past I’ve put spring corn in 1st week in May but it knocks the harvest back.
Hopefully things will even out the weather has a habit of doing that.

Fast forward to August: I wonder if the merchants will still have that "sh!t on their shoes" look, when someone asks for £25 tonne, or £50 an acre for wheat straw in the swath :D

The 500 tonnes of straw I chopped last year (because it was apparently "far too dear") would now be worth £60,000 EX FARM, but come harvest new crop straw will be miraculously worth "sweet fudge all" again:whistle:

I'll try selling through the local straw auction, but I'm 90% certain that it will all go through the chopper.

Chap local to me (sw scotland) who is a straw merchant is keen for more straw from borders, good to deal with, pm if you would like his number

Build a shed. Fill it with straw and shut it until someone offers you the money you want?

Well according to the Met office, by next Wednesday its going to be 19 degrees and sunny here.......
Good. 2 weeks ago I snuck onto my disced barley stubble and sprayed the headland off so the overlaps ploughed cleanly.

The outside 20m of a 30 acre field on a hillside above a dual carriageway is bright yellow. The middle is a lovely shade of green.

200t chicken muck to top dress onto adjoining piece before I can start to plough, so I need it to dry up before I can do that.

I'm sure it's entertaining the commuters. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
