I agree about tobacco products, but you miss the point. Which is that once some serious effort was put in to demonise it, sales declined rapidly.

Yes, it will not effect me much if most of the area is turned into a serious fire hazard after I'm gone. The timing is OK and won't effect me much. It does effect the countryside as a whole though and it will likely be transformed over the next decade, and certainly by 2040 it will be unrecognisable, for the worse.

Make an appointment to see your MP now. Just get your ducks in a row first and do some research before the meeting. The CLEAR centre is a good resource. Most MPs are sympathetic to us. We have science and good sense on our side. This isn’t smoking or even Diesel engines.

I have the local one coming out to the farm in a fortnight and I am seeing the neighbouring one the week after with the other local NFU branch officeholders. I am fully prepared to ‘Just Walk’ my livestock down the A303 past Stonehenge to market on a Bank Holiday Monday if that is required to make these people listen to us.

But tobacco products cause addiction that leads to illness. Meat and dairy don't. Meat and dairy are part of healthy, ethical diets.

For a while the Tobacco industry tried to promote notions of being healthy and ethical, in the end they lost. I think we start on much firmer ground regarding health and ethics, but it still shows how the tide can be turned with enough time and a drip drip drip. In todays world of constant media feed the drips come faster and sink in deeper, public opinions can be shifted far faster than was ever possible before.

You speak as if it's just a British problem. I'm afraid it's happening in most of the more advanced economies in the world but fortunately so far increasing demand from developing economies has taken up the slack.

Believe me, they are serious about pushing farmers out of ruminant animal production and changing consumer habits. This is going to happen in a shorter time frame than most farmers appreciate and is being officially brought forward rather than being delayed. The targets may not be met, but that is not the point. The point being is that these anti-ruminant [beef sheep and milk] pressures are real and being actively pursued, and they will be facilitated by attrition. Squeezing farmers out of production by the simple economics of reducing demand through propaganda while drastically increasing production costs through ever increasing regulations, 'standards' and statutory infrastructure costs. It has already started and anyone who denies it must have some Ostrich breeding in their DNA.

This is a huge concern. We believe that the Government will use COP-26 to drive this agenda.

I wonder how many people get fed from an acre of cereals if it goes straight to the end user rather than feeding livestock and the end user eating the meat?
As the population expands can we keep meat eating?

The combination of relentless negative propaganda with ever increasing legislation and costs imposed on cigarettes has destroyed the product in many countries. Yes, the same tactics are being used to reduce and eventually destroy the ruminant food industry, make no mistake about it. It is proven to be a very effective method of changing people's habits.

It works with cigarettes/tobacco and it will work just as well against meat and milk.

I disagree...I think the general public are sensible enough to realise that a balanced diet which includes meat won’t cause cancer like tabs will...you only have to look at a smoker to see it’s not a healthy vice...

The MP route is always a good way to proceed. We have recently used Green vegetarian Caroline Lucas to support one of our butcher members. She was excellent and got the matter resolved in just a few days!

Yes I.know but we seem to be leading the way in our efforts to be word beating. Our government has set targets which we need to counter. If we can do this in this country it is a start and this will be noticed by other countries who we are trying influence.

Last load of hoggets we sent in on Monday averaged £145 each that’s despite everybody including the BBC and dear old NFU predicting prices would go off a cliff at Brexit. A lot of these media types are actually just plain wrong and swimming against the tide of real public opinion with their middle class lefty agenda.
Any government that tries to stop joe public eating meat and dairy does so at their peril and will pay dearly for it at the ballot box.
They will have to do better than that. Take no notice.

The current general public probably area. However younger consumers in schools appear to be being influenced to drop or reduce their meat and dairy consumption through schemes such a meat free Monday, 20% less but better, less than well informed teachers and other 'influnencers' such a Greta

The point being that Big Macs as we know them, will no longer be available. The supply of meat will be severely curtailed. They will switch there offering to some lab produced rubber...
