The TFF Farmer only focus group ?

Last week I had a meeting with Dr David Llewelyn ( the man heading up the Farm assurance review)

Along with others I have been very outspoken and critical about the way their recent "farmer" survey has been undertaken ! In a nutshell there is no verification that participants are in fact farmers let alone members of assurance scheme and absolutely nothing to prevent multiple response or spoofing by bots etc all of which place questions over the integrity of the results

A couple of things struck me after our conversation

How do you ensure in such instances you get quality response from genuinely qualified participants (ie FARMERS) ?

Why would farmers bother to provide such information unless its was subject they felt passionate about or were bribed with £'s or vouchers etc ? ........ this in turn creates a conformation basis re the type of participant that takes part in such surveys !

so here is the idea ..............

We create a "TFF Farmer focus group"

To be a member you just fully complete your profile re the type of farmer you are and we verify you are indeed a farmer via checks

You can then opt in to being a TFF focus group member, so it would be totally voluntary

In the future when feedback is sought on any issue that affects us as farmers from the likes of DEFRA , AHDB or assurance reviews etc we can then offer a credible way to ensure that it's coming from relevant FARMERS but behind a TFF username to ensure anonymity that allows freedom to say what they really think

Just to be clear no details of any individual choosing to take part in this would ever be shared with a 3rd party (GDPR protects here and TFF take it very seriously)

TFF members have already used this platform to organise a presentation to parliamentary select committee and its spawned the ever growing BFU, without doubt voices here have been responsible for the current questions and inevitable shake up of farm assurance. This could be yet another way to use this platform to get our voices heard by those that control our futures, It's something we can implement really easy so whats your thoughts ? good idea ?

Yea id be happy with that , problem is when they dont get the answers they are looking for they just ignore us , all the work many on here put in with ,"we want to co design this new scheme janet" , just ignored when the degree holding advisors waded in .

Well at least if we can make our views clear its cant be said we didn't try !

Importantly we will be able to say these views / answers are from FARMERS and even segregate that by locations / type of farm etc

Too many complain but don't do anything or even give thought to a possible solution.

It's to your credit that at least you're prepared to give something a go. (y)

The farm assurance survey really highlights how others can highjack such feedback to suit their agenda, something like this would leave no excuses for those claiming to represent / of governance of uk ag

couldn't have put it better myself .............. you have a way with words :ROFLMAO:

Collectively there is a LOT of power behind this platform as Red Tractor have found out !! When farmers work together they are a force to be reckoned with, sadly there is not often enough working together though !

all farmers are welcome on TFF

I spent 3 years living / working on farms in the UK in the early ‘90’s

My mother was a Scot who came out here in the early ‘60’s

I have spent my entire life involved in Ag here

I actually care a lot ( although most on here wouldn’t believe it & think I’m just an uneducated antipodean) about UK Ag & am so sad about the position you are now in . . .

I will return to the UK at some point, would really like to catch up with you & share some experiences

Only read the OP so this point may have already been made, but if you are wanting to carry out an exercise where only farmers can participate then just do it on the BFU pages.

edit: I'm out now, didn't realise from the thread title it was a RT thing, will leave you to your endless bellyaching.

its not just a RT thing - it’s just the failings of their survey has highlighted how easy FARMERS voices can be diluted or how only the same voices (usually only those will to climb that greasy pole !) get heard

BFU members should definitely get involved but i think this should go wider than just that and give every farmer the opportunity

wasnt having a dig at degree holders just civil service advisors fresh out of uni no practical experience telling everyone else how they should be farming and feeding into policy making .
