The only shortage I've noticed is ruddy John Deere fitters, been waiting weeks to get a tractor fixed. Other than that is more about price rises on things like construction materials than actual shortage of anything atm. But I am sure some manufacturing businesses must now be starting to run short of some Chinese produced stuff.

We used to have a usfull chap
In a van come round selling filters. He retired and it’s a girl now. She is around all the time at the moment trying to sell filters. Should I send her over?

Covid may have a say in the matter
Covid came in March 2020, no shortages when we came out of lockdowns last year
Bog roll 😂😂😂😂😂

I can’t actually remember no bog roll available but I quite clearly remember no flour and eggs at all, only the odd bit of bread, no loaves, just the odd few packets of rolls and similar in the meat aisles, hardly anything there, I think milk might have been too but I didn’t take too much notice as there’s plenty in the tank.

Northern Ireland shelves and fuel pumps are unaffected. It’s supply line from UK, has simply been replaced by supplies from ROI. Northern Ireland’s place in the EU single market, compliments of the protocol, has protected it from Brexit.
Proof that the mainland has a significant direct Brexit disruption on top of that of Covid.
Practically all of NI petroleum products come from the rest of the United Kingdom.

Brexit isn't the cause of the anger and discontent, its the symptom. Same with Trump. Social media just amplifies and accelerates everything.

For a long time across the west there's been a widening gulf between the ruling class and so called "elites" and everyone else. The elites represent a vanishingly small percentage of the population but are the only ones selected by political parties to be presented for election, so regardless of what party is in power, we get more of the same. This is particularly apparent in the US when very credible candidates such as Tulsi Gabbard are smeared and dishonestly discredited to favour of the likes of Clinton or Biden. This is why Farage and Trump did well, they are insurgents.

Its important to note though that the UK & US have been in similar predicaments in the past, most recently through the 1970s. Strong leadership was the order of the day then to get both countries back up but sadly I can't see anyone this side of the Atlantic showing those attributes. Cometh the hour, cometh the man.

According to the Spanish friends of my Mrs, there is a shortage of lorry drivers all across Europe. 400,000 drivers short across the EU. It might well be worse here but shortages and high prices aren’t uniquely a U.K. problem. Germany is dependent on Russian gas to a much larger extent than we are. I wouldn’t say the EU are any better off than we are.

Been picking up Sand and Lime as needed for the house wall. Brico isn't short of anything as I've seen in the the Builders and Trades yard at the back. Busy as well with the nice weather.

So 446 million people are alledgedly short of 400,000 drivers, but no shelves empty here and 67 Ish million people are 100,000 drivers short. Duhh!

I read EU short 300k drivers over population 450 million. That’s short 666 drivers per million population.
UK short 100k drivers over 67 million. Thats short 1492 drivers per million population.
Problem in UK is therefore 224% higher than EU.

I have just returned from a trip to Sainsburys and Lidls and filled my car with diesel. There were no empty shelves in either, no queues at the pumps and no obvious shortages. Maybe you would like to account for that.

Absence of evidence is not the same as evidence of absence. And it's not really Ashtree's job to convince you otherwise. (Sorry for butting in Ashtree)

I very much doubt that we are short of anything like 100,000 drivers it just seems to be a figure plucked out of the air by the RHA who have been shouting about driver shortage for years. I think there are only about 500,000 HGV's licensed on UK roads and apparently plenty of HGV licence holders, if the RHA spent more time fighting for better conditions for drivers, instead of pandering to big companies who want cheap labour, then there would be more willing drivers
