Fordson majorAs said,i'll go for a concourse prepared Massey 35 as being everything a classic tractor should be.
In two or four wheel drive they look good.Would have to be a MF 2640 years a head of all the rest back in 1978

They can pull and smokeNever had you down as having sadistic tendencies.....
Look at what its direct competitors were at the time....Nuffield universal 4, later 4/60, DB30d, later 900,950, MF 65
all of which were far superior in many ways
the major was just a cheap volume product, the escort of the tractor world you could say
i cant think of a single redeeming feature of a major which made it any better than any of the above mentioned tractors
Both MK 2 ones , MK 1 tractors are very hard to find

Even more so with the engine side panels still in place! Both MK 2 ones , MK 1 tractors are very hard to find
I probably agree with you. The 135 just felt more 'sorted' than it's contemporaries.Being something of a classic tractor enthusiast; and having grown up in the 1960's and reared at home on Dextas and Ford 3000s; but always envious of neighbours 35's and 135's I hope that I can perhaps offer a totally unbiased opinion by saying that the only real contender for the ultimate classic tractor has to be the Massey 135.

It may be noisy and lack a 1000RPM PTO but it's still the king.
I just love a 2000 series Massey. Spent many happy hours on a 2685 on placement. One day I'll have one
View attachment 455118 loved this tractor and didn't want to sell it but we needed something bigger so it had to go
I love them both... but not as much as a 600.Dont like 500 or 2000 series Massey's but the above images are starting to have an impact.
