Some smaller presumably younger trees seem to be affected, but it seems to be location specific as opposed to a more general thing. Its affecting trees in shallow soils, or on top of banks and roadside trees etc.

Areas of bracken and bramble is starting to look like it should in september.
Lot more effected today neibours farm as well, but i have noticed its only big beach trees

Back in 1976 all our beech trees shed their leaves during the drought and the bark on trunks split vertically. It looked as though they were going to ring bark and die but when it eventually rained, new bark grew out through the splits and the trees grew new leaves. This was on large mature trees
I suspect those trees had seen it dry before
