I think a lot of us did that or cam very close last year with the lack of grass!some folks can make silage that's more expensive than barley
That depends on the cost of the land, buying silage isnt so bad when you consider land values in this part of the worldAgreed. But there is a massive difference profit wise from having 5000litrrs from grazed grass and 5000 litres from silage.
The finance costs should be picked up by the depreciation.CFP isn’t perfect either. Example being power and machinery and contractor costs can be super low on cfp, but a stack of finance for new kit outside of it.
Regarding the milk from forage, one of our discussion group members has very high yield, very high milk from forage and the highest cfp by some considerable margin.
On accounts , yes, depends how much information is provided for cfp.The finance costs should be picked up by the depreciation.
What's a CFP plesse? I'm guessing some sort of form/document you fill out and it tells you what your margin per cow is??Of all the figures that can be used to measure herd performance, it was only when I started having a proper CFP done through my discussion group that I grasped what is important. An eye opener, and now look forward to it every year.
Comparable farm profit. What's a CFP plesse? I'm guessing some sort of form/document you fill out and it tells you what your margin per cow is??
certain things I'll never be persuaded from (eg rearing heifers and pedigree etc I just enjoy it far too much to even consider doing a flying herd), learnt a lot tho8gh and maybe need to consider relaxing on certain aspects I'm a massive control freak and like everything to be done a certain way eg: I dont trust anyone to touch my electric fencing as it ALWAYS ends in a mess I have to sort outYou can run all the budgets you want.
A good way is just find someone doing it better and copy them, it's easy to find folk in my case .
Speaking of which, did beefy mange to convert you to bronze standard farming @Jdunn55
How and what's that? Sorry if I'm being thickComparable farm profit.

Compare inputs and outputs values to similar type of business. How and what's that? Sorry if I'm being thick
Thanks, I'm guessing you would need a years worth of accounts to do that?Compare inputs and outputs values to similar type of business.
Also compares costs per litre and per cow
Yes ideallyThanks, I'm guessing you would need a years worth of accounts to do that?
It’s much more in-depth and relevant than any sort of margin work you care to mention. What's a CFP plesse? I'm guessing some sort of form/document you fill out and it tells you what your margin per cow is??
very similar here last year, I threw the toys out and started zero grazing to negate the milk price cut, we felt the cost of that for several monthsWhat the CFP can show well is how well your costs are being diluted by your milk output. If that makes sense. For me last year I had to reduce milk output in the spring because of COVID and my milk buyer asked me to. However it was like driving with the handbrake on, trying to stop cows milking well in spring and then with the autum cows, they just went dry quicker, so milk was down for many months. This had quite an impact on my CFP.
