Someone has chop the rails off two of our stlies. They have been on the footpath since the 60s and no one has had a problem with them. I’m use to dealing with d!ckheads farming on the urban fringe but this has p!ssed me right of for some reason.

That’s what I was thinking, however it looks like it was a hacksaw blade. takes some stopping people if they have a cordless power tool in their back pack. Was thinking a 3 inch pipe filled with concrete and piece of rebar in the middle. Will probably end up with main posts been cut🤷‍♂️

County Council footpath warden. Some can be pretty good, though they prefer self closing gates rather than stiles now to allow easier access for those with restricted mobility etc.

You only have to agree to a gate if there was a gate before. If a stile previously, you can insist it remains as a stile, but if there was a gate previously, you can’t install a stile (been there😡).

Never ever agree to a new gate as you can never go back.

Needs 3 phase power supply then.

Disability Act may come in to play?

I'm guessing that in the OP someone - even possibly the footpath officer - created their own disabled access

Or then again, could be devilment...

Once they cut thru it all I’d imagine you’ll find it stuck in a mower or wedged in somewhere expensive to fix.

Worcestershire Council will install metal gates and surrounds for free to replace a stile. but they will supply a wooden stile as a flat pack for you to install if you don’t want the metal gate. I’ve replaced some earlier this year and opted for the wooden stiles as they are far less obtrusive.

We had a stone slab stile on the Cotswold way, generation’s old, that cyclists knocked the top out and used as a jump before moving on. Don’t know how they did it.

Cotswold way people repaired it and tidied the wall each side for 20ft.

The issue with a stile is it’s the landowners responsibility to look after and if someone falls off it you are liable. So we took the free metal kissing gate installed by the council as I didn’t want the liability for the stile

Ah yes, had a few of those last year during Lockdown, where a stile had been in place donkeys years, to loose a mutt through was the reason I guess. Pretty sure I know who the individual was, but proving it...

I now have to leave a dog pophole, which is also a lamb pop hole... Next models will have a small bar that can be lifted to loose dogs through!
