TFF makes me smile, so many people with good advice, support, and good humour, in these days of solitary existence when we spend all day on our own its good we can come on here and exchange views and ideas
Very true.
Mrs YB often looks across at me and wonders why I'm sitting here laughing my socks off at a computer screen

A real unspoilt working farmhouse kitchen makes me smile. A dog on the settee, cat on the table, years of honest grime worn into a brick floor, coconut matting and the furniture. A 1970's Hotpoint cooker in the corner with the supply wire there for all to see. Big table in the middle with years of marks and stains.Grandad in his armchair in the corner buttering the end of a loaf then slicing a piece off, juntering about something. Warming himself against the range. All the usual paraphenalia and spare parts lying about ready for use or attention.

It's homely, it's reassuring, it works.

We had a coke fired Rayburn in the early seventies which I can just remember, then a diesel oil fired range called a Hamco, I think. Dad took that out in the 1970's when the oil price spiked and it was back to a solid fuel (coke but mostly wood fired) Rayburn and the smell of sulphur dioxide if the wind was blowing the wrong way and the dust when riddling it. Mother hated it. It never really got hot enough to cook anything unless you stoked it like the Queen Mary and it only managed to get the central heating tepid. It was finally sold to some good lifers and just about paid for a kerosene fired heating boiler. Luxury. Cooking all electric.

I have visited quite a few farms buying or selling stuff and yes, it's always good to find an "authentic" farm house kitchen, mug of really nice tea, and a cheery welcome. One of the good things about farming that you don't find elsewhere in the commercial world.

@DrWazzock you talking about stoking the Rayburn up like the Queen Mary reminded me of one night when the old man and I decided to see if we could get our Rayburn hot enough to make the dial on the oven door go past the highest mark, over 350 degrees C.
Well, as we were reaching the target there was an almighty bang, the kitchen was instantly filled with smoke and dust along with my mother who was doing a great impression of exploding herself!
The dust and smoke cleared and we were all in one piece, we abandoned the idea and looked at the Rayburn. On the top, on the enamelled surround of the hotplate there was a half inch wide crack from the hot end of the cooking plate to the chimney. As that part is mainly a fascia, there wasn't any smoke coming out so there wasn't much we could do about it. We continued to use the Rayburn for a number of years afterwards and that crack never moved, not wider or smaller, no matter what the temperature got to.
I reckon we were lucky that night!

I had to smile this morning.
A woman from O2 rang to ask me if I was happy with my business PAYG sim at 11 quid a month?
I replied that I had at first suspected she was an Asian lady trying me to do some survey (I get one call a week like that )and she wouldnt be able to better that !!
She laughed and then said as I had been with them for 20 years and paid my bills on DD and never gave them crap she was offering me a special deal etc etc.
Mentioned the farm and she asked about the cows - names etc and she said how she loved cows !!!

Then she offered me a tablet FOC , a new 24 month deal at less money , so go for it I did !
Then after talking about the farm and Brexit she asked if I would be going to the EU?
Told her all about Brexit IMO and after a minute of listening she laughed and said that she had actually meant -Was I taking the Tablet to the EU because the costs would be extreme !!!

Doh !! :censored:
