Thinking ahead with Tony’s cronies.

With Tony Juniper at the helm of Natural England and the revocation of the “general licence for bird control” occurring in the first week or two of his tenure we as farmers and countrymen need to be aware of the very real threat this appointment poses going forward.
I predict a review and u-turn on hard won bovine tb badger culls just when UK cattle farmers are seeing a glimmer of hope the new man will stuff it.
Right to roam will be extended to all uncropped land, public will enjoy a presumption of free access to the rural environment wherever bps is claimed.
Its rumoured NE is shortly to be rebranded which is why Michael Gove has appointed a radical environmentalist as its chair to test the water. If it’s chaos Tony Juniper will become a martyred casualty and you and I will go on coping with consequences.
But if it turns out to be an inspired choice radically improving the lot of nature and the public enjoyment.....you and I will go on coping with the consequences.

If as expected NE get their way I predict there will be a huge rejection of RT and SFP when it changes in a couple of years
FREXIT will happen , farming exits the handcuffs of subsidy and enviro regs .
The best conservationists are the farmers themselves

Tony Juniper spent many years at Friends of the Earth. He is an environmental campaigner at heart, and as such he will be deeply concerned about issues such as climate change and carbon capture. A thriving UK agriculture will help Tony Juniper meet his concerns through reducing food miles, protecting the rainforest etc etc. If the industry can't get him onboard from the get go then someone isn't doing their job properly.

I admire your optimism. I can’t say I share it!

I wouldn't be too worried about right to roam, we've had it here for quite a while now, it's not really a problem.

Right to roam already happens here. If I was to fend off everyone who ignores the footpaths I would never get anything done. Sat in the office at the moment but I guarantee there is somebody where they shouldn’t be.

Population density is generally a lot lower in Scotland than England though.

Also a right to roam is in direct conflict to the encouragement of wildlife.

Generally perhaps, but I can almost throw a stone to Edinburgh, population is dense around here, and since the right to roam came in I see no change for the worse.

It's worth keeping in mind that with the right to roam in Scotland, people only have the right to responsible access, as soon as they do something irresponsible they deny themselves that right.
