Thinking of beef farming

Hi all, I’m wondering if I could get some advice please, I currently have a herd of 30 cows. I have my own pedigree bull and once calved, I keep calves until they’re ready to come of the cows. I then sell calves in the local mart. That’s the way I’ve been doing it for years but as I also work in the construction business it’s getting harder especially around calving time. I have been thinking about changing to a beef finishing type of farming but don’t know a great deal about it and it was just advice I was after or has anyone else been in this position before. Buy in 50 6months old stirks a year keep for 12 months the sell as 18month strong stores job done

another vote for weanlings to heavy stores here. think finishing is best left to the bigger operations. down here in the south west, if you went to market regularly and have a good eye for cattle you can pick up some nice dairy bred stuff. with tb, you get alot of dairy farms having to rear thier calves until they get a clear herd test, then they have a clear out. these cattle often look good value to me. maybe best to avoid buyinng in the early spring madness
