One of great grandads sayings “Listen too everyone, even idiots have been known to have the odd good idea!”Yes, you can`t beat a bit (no a LOT!) of research - ask questions and LISTEN!!

I hope the (absent) O P does appreciate all this good free advice...... maybe one day he`ll confide as to how he decides to play itWe know little about the (absent) OP of course. He might well have been running a pedigree Texel flock for decades already, and asking opinions on buying over fed in-lamb ewes. Or he might be a complete newbie to the pedigree job that ‘fancies a go’. Or he might be a established Texel breeder looking to start a thread on the forthcoming in-lamb ewe sales where he might have some for sale.....
I was always told to leave something in them for the next owner, encourage them to return for more. Plenty of others to take their place these days though.
Well, I`m not a Texel man but the vibes I see on here suggest something younger to get used to your place/system might be a better bet financially in the long term. Might be an idea to start small and see if you like it - there`s some good advice on this thread now!
very often followed closely by a sort of glugging noise.except that the new flocks who tend to make it start with a splash.

The only success that I had when starting, was relatively well bred cull/old ewes from a couple of flocks, and one very good as it turned out ewe lamb, all the shearlings, ahhhhhh. and that's thirty odd yrs ago, before folk really got the feeding bug.

I haven't read all the pages so apologies if this repeats anything said previously.
I have watched an awful lot of very nice in-lamb sheep being sold relatively cheaply at our local Thainstone Christmas Classic by folk without big names who are not in the clique. I've obtained 3 of my 4 previous stock tups by buying in-lamb females. Even the big names looking for a bit of Christmas present money will put up a pen. There are also a lot of breeders who will put in really nice sheep to ensure they top the sales and garner the publicity.
With a budget of 2k I would expect to be able to buy a handful of sheep who do not look quite as amazing but have similar pedigrees to the big number sheep sold earlier in the year and they will be scanned in lamb.
I bought in to Beltex at the premier sales and quite frankly I was stupid. I bought big money sheep and thought I would sell big money lambs. Nope. What I should have done was buy from the likes of our Christmas Classic or whatever your local marts Christmas promotion is at a fraction of the price and went from there.
Oh beggar now I've given away the secret to buying pedigree sheep cheaply, oh well I guess there may be a bit more competition this year.
