thinking of buying a beltex tup
To tup 5 pedigree texel ewes I have to breed more of my own tups, and he will also cover about 40 older ewes....I haven't had a beltex for about 10 years as the last one tupped one ewe and popped his hooves....are they any better these days or am I nuttier than squirrel turd?

I ran a very cheap one over 40 lairg northie ewes last winter, running on the hill Dec - Mar. He was bought as a favour to a friends who's child was selling him, really was meant for Longtown but he got a reprieve. Small packed little lad but never missed a beat. Lambed 2nd & 3rd week of April. Went through lambs last weekend and only 3 not hitting weight for fat, heaviest up at 52kg weigh like lead. One Ovivac injection and 1 dose of parafend. Over the moon with the results.

Look strong ewes!! Think I might have been the under bidder on one oops haha How's the ram lamb bred?

I only went thinking I might be tempted on a tidy ewe, but was a buyer’s market on the day so....

He was a substitute lot from Cynin, presumably unsold at Carlisle. By a homebred ram out of an imported ewe. He’s a hell of a length, but did wonder what that green stuff under his feet was when he got to the field. Not daft money, so worth a gamble for chasing up I thought.

I went thinking of a pair of ewes and need a new stock tup.....ended up with 4 (I did set myself a limit nothing over 400gns) and a freak of a Tup haha all in all a good day!! Was definitely a buyer's market!!

Aaah he'd be well bred then, they spent a lot on importing stock and buying good lines, won the winter fair etc

Yes, she was their first in. Twin sister led their Carlisle pen too, which could either be seen as a good or bad thing.:scratchhead: Her scale and length is what made me think she needed coming home, even if nothing else did. Just been AI’ed for flushing today.;)
