I've a field polluted with thistles.
Is there an effective clover friendly chemical that will take them out, and at what growth stage?
Or is it better to just wipe out the clover and start again?

Yes - and very effectively same as aminopyralid and triclopyr, im afraid.not sure ...would cholpyralid kill clover?
I newer used reglone so don't know much about it. But I do know roundup doesn't hurt clover at allI don't think 2-4DB will hurt clover too badly. But then it's fairly pathetic on thistles too!
I'd go with 2l/ha each of 2-4D and MCPA, and let the clover take it's chances. I've found it normally survives. But then I can't kill it with 2.5l of Reglone either!
Yes it will kill it.To be sure use at full rate in ley or pp situation - spray in g growing conditions of course ..I newer used reglone so don't know much about it. But I do know roundup doesn't hurt clover at all
MCPA and dont worry about clover it will recover.
Not in my experienceYes it will kill it.To be sure use at full rate in ley or pp situation - spray in g growing conditions of course ..
reckon there's a good 3 plants per 10m².....View attachment 301554
