That doesn't look like ancient pp to me so either a weedwiper later or mcpa and hope. Scotch are very susceptible to mcpa.

I had a young key like that last year, but thistles closer together & all over. I gave up in the end and went through with Thistlex. I broadcast some clover seed on in the Autumn to try to re-establish it, but not very successfully.

Would spraying now before clover gets going be any easier on the clover?

We used to have mcpb which worked a treat but the recommendation for grass was removed.
Mcpa will check clover but if will recover . Weed wiping with Clopyralid ( ThistleX of Shield ) best for Scoth/ Spear or Gore as we call them.

I don't think 2-4DB will hurt clover too badly. But then it's fairly pathetic on thistles too!
I'd go with 2l/ha each of 2-4D and MCPA, and let the clover take it's chances. I've found it normally survives. But then I can't kill it with 2.5l of Reglone either!

Yes - and very effectively same as aminopyralid and triclopyr, im afraid.
I used to do work on horse paddocks - the favorite herbic's.were forefront and pharaoh,as well as docks etc - part of the plan was to remove clover

I newer used reglone so don't know much about it. But I do know roundup doesn't hurt clover at all
Yes it will kill it.To be sure use at full rate in ley or pp situation - spray in g growing conditions of course ..

i might be a tad thick but what clover ??? or are yer saying all the new stuff strikeing in a old paddock is clover
if it's new clover it's miles away from spraying need to get it true leaves on and looking at weeds maybe a mix of MCPB and flumetsulam or bentazone
if not's not clover and just weeds i would be hitting it with round up and total redrill or plough steel

Agree, MCPA, cheap as chips, but wait till the thistles are growing well and not living from the root.

Did my PA1 pesticide course last week and instructor told us MCPA is being banned. Anyone else hear of this?

Spot spray? I have a quad sprayer now but for years has a pump on top of an old drum on the landy, every time I went round cattle would spray out the thistles in a little patch.

Bring one with you every time you go herding
reckon there's a good 3 plants per 10m².....In the 10ha field, that could be over 30,000 plants
Think I'll get the man with the 24m boom sprayer in when the soil warms up a bit (and things start growing up here) thank you
