Have you taken it off? Might only need a new set of brushes. Several ways of finding a replacement..either by cross referencing the numbers on the alternator, or matching up by size .

I have not seen machine , the only details I know are the owner has tried 2 spares suppliers . I thought about could it be repaired perhaps I should have done that first

I had a T85 which had a Kubota engine, alternators were readily available for it. common to most of the hortic type tractors. We had a problem with ours not starting and went through all the usual checks, turned out it was a fuse holder touching the housing. We only found out as we fixed it at night and could see it flashing in the dark when the ignition was turned. Normally you wouldnt see it as the fuse cover would be on.

We had trouble getting some of the Thomas parts from a local ex-dealer but one of the store men at Dobsons in Cumbria seemed to be able to source them from the leftover spares bought by former employees at the factory.

Pretty much any old aternator can be made to fit. Depends really what it does apart from charging the battery. Does it need a W terminal for a rev counter? If it’s only for charging then any out of a scrapped car will do.
