Don't worry @bluebell .......... the EU are going to insist that any thing stamped "Made in Britain" MUST be made here as they don't want any US or Chinese trojan goods coming in under a false flag. So that's no export from the UK then

As if BoJo the Spaffmeister would be so underhanded

Only thing that classifies coo is where most added value takes place

my point is that at one time we could source anything made by a company big or small in the UK, then a revolution occurred and the mantra was dont make it here we are now a service basied economy the new game is get it made somewhere else? it happened to be chinia, who cares about what they do in that country, what pollution is caused what the workers wages and conditions are? im know different im part of the circle, a race to the bottom. The filter i refurred to was proberlly know better quality , just a few pennies cheaper ?

red tape is another big big issue in this country, look at the third runway at heathrow debate thats gone on for years, and proberley cost millions in consultants fees? In chinea the top decides and its done no delay excuses or debates they just do it who cares about the rights of the individual ? we should have been brave and built a new airport in the thames estuary that was proposed in the 1970s, that would have solved all the noise issues and would have saved thousands of acres of valuable real estate?

Where products are made is not necessarily where the value in them is added.

Case in point. Apple (a huge American company) designs it's products and writes software in California. It has the hardware assembled in China.

Now tell me, which workers are adding the value to the latest iphone? The designers on that huge campus in California where they are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year or the people in the air conditioned factory where they screw phones together under a microscope for about $4 an hour?

Where would you prefer your newly-graduated offspring to work?

The Coronavirus issue has highlighted just how much the western world has become reliant on Chinese production. Why did so much manufacturing go East? Lower labour cost, likely less red tape and perhaps safety standards in China makes their COP much less than Western Europe. Slightly ironic that our nations preach higher standards (which is no bad thing) but for the best economic solution, we all turn to the East. Maybe, just maybe this is a “lightbulb” moment. With modern robotics replacing people, we can bring back some manufacturing to our western shores and thereby reduce the risk of supply chain issues when a global epidemic causes the issues we see now. Discuss.
