Those with the woeful 1.9 Isuzu

I think these new smaller engines are better matched to an auto box. The 2.2 in our l200 barbarian X is very lively but its an auto.
The 1.9 in the isuzu with a manual is a sack of sh!t, it's got no go, full of lag/ flat spots its dangerous.

To those that don’t know Isuzu UK option an upgrade ECU which takes the 1.9l engine up to 400nm of torque and 194hp whilst not affecting the 125,000 mile 5 year warranty, the dealers don’t talk about it much but it makes the auto version rather more civilised to drive and tow with.

Is yours a manual or auto box?
Might have the chance of an auto 3.2 shortly
Auto. Not meddled with in any way either. It’s a big lazy lump not particularly quick off the mark but pulls for England.

excellent for towing as well. Very very stable

this is my 2nd the first had various issues but 2 years in this one has been good as gold.

on 2.5L if throttle pressed when cold nothing happens for 5 to 10 seconds and power is less than half till warmed up,would tunning or remap sort it out, service made no difference
Yes, had my 2.5 re-mapped by Avon Tuning in Bristol, it goes very well indeed now, great to tow with bar the high 1st gear. It also gets rid of the flatspots etc

Our 1.9 is an auto, it goes very well and certainly better than my previous hilux, which was a manual, have towed several times right on the weight limit was really impressed, fuel consumption is better too

As I've said before. If Isuzu UK woke up and imported the d max they sell in Australia/New Zealand ,they get the 3lt engine only, and 6 yrs warranty. So why not us ?.

I find my 1.9 performs and tows much better than the 3.0 litre I had before and uses far less diesol. If I ever get out onto a road straight enough I hope to find out what sixth gear is like.

Pendle have a very good reputation in VW circles.
No personal experience of their work though.

See that Toyota are bucking the trend for this little blocks, with a bigger capacity engine, 2.8 and 201bhp

At last they are bringing back a tidy engine option to the HiLux. About time. They have had a few issues with the DPF on these in Australia but they have now been sorted, proven and coming over here. As long as the seating position and suspension are comfortable, it should be a cracking vehicle.

As for Isuzu, how many crap engines are customers willing to tolerate before they see the light and get better vehicles from other brands? I mean, Isuzu just churn out one crap engine after another and people keep buying them. Is it because they are the cheapest pickups available?

The 2.8tdi in the Troopers was a fantastic engine, bulletproof, plenty of torque and not too bad on fuel, but yes, the rest seem not great, my 2.5tdi is great since it was mapped, just done over 100k miles now and just the EGR valve replaced, filters and oils.

You are going back to the mid 1980's Mk1 Trooper which had a tolerable, for the time, direct injection engine. Then the new Trooper had a more refined but thirsty 3.1 litre indirect injection engine with 113hp which was quite reliable. Few of their engines since then have been much good and many a disaster, such as the replacement for the 3.1. It went well, until it grenaded.
Terribly inconsistent engine performance and reliability from Isuzu. One of the very worse records I can think of.

Who the hell has time to worry about a remap?
Has yours had the 2 recalls for the broken leaf springs?
Was in dealers 2 weeks sorting this lag/hesitation on acceleration and comes back not fixed.
I'd like to know if ours is the only 1 that does this. Way I describe it if you go to overtake it goes off the mark ok but get level with say a cyclist and it just sits there. Not dieing nor accelerating for 1-2 seconds. Can do this at any speed upto 70. If your lucky it will do this twice on the same manoeuvre.
Never driven something so sh!t.

Leaf springs are bent the wrong way but not broken yet, carry a lot of weight in tools
No lag, put your foot down and it flies, we did have a set of brakes on it recently for its 24,000 mile service as the old ones where blue from heavy braking
