Have a yard entrance and want to Make and hang double 12ft gates. Want to block view up yard so intend space boarding into box frame My question is if use 5x1 timber Leavin inch gap between will gate get v heavy During winter of constant rain? Is there a treatment that would leave them less water prone. Priced plastic boards and costing 500€ alone which is making it expensive. all suggestions welcome.

Any boarded or claded gate will be an absolute pig / dangerous in any wind. I find even palisade ones dangerous, we only fit weld mesh ones now as we have had incidents in the past. Even a slight breeze on a 12ft one will make it an absolute pig to open.

Don’t know how you get around it bar fitting a sliding gate, but they will be mega money.

Ya that’s what am afraid of alright. if I concrete in length of flat steel eg 100x6mm ‘standing‘ up and put two wheels on bottom of gate to run on It would it work?
