you are mistaken as I myself know if rents dropped id go out and rent much more to spread my costs that's my plan if subs go, increase cow numbers and acres of grain
If the subs went how easy would it be for you to suddenly increase cow numbers and take on more acres?
and im not even that big, the idea that subs disappearing will be good for the small farmer is crazy, what do you think the big farms getting big subs will do? capitalise on cheaper rents and expand as much as they can, they're not just going to pack up & leave, this in turn means the rent wont drop THAT much
I never said it would be good for the smaller farmer I said it could give the smaller farmer more opportunities

the way people are talking more land will appear and at a cheaper price no doubt ill find a shed somewhere with cattle courts, if I can sell another 500t of grain a year and another 50-100 store cattle using the same labour cost and machinery surely this will boost my turnover enough that I don't need to worry about sfp so much

so all the new entrants thought that's why they voted to leave so there would be more ground available, ill have some of that
Your waisting your time debating with him he just comes across as a very bitter man and carnt get his head round the fact that he is farming someone else's land.As for the renting of land I think there will be quite a bit come on the market because this expanded at all cost isn't going to work long term. I Think it will come down to how much paid labour you have and some are coming to the conclusion that to have less staff and less land will improve their bottom line more than expanding at all cost.
