25+ years ago working on a farm was far more active, even arable. I'd lose huge amounts of weight over harvest, and be fit as a flea at the end of it.
These days, the summer is when I pile the weight on, no animals to look after and weeks of just sat in machines. I have this evening done my first non-Parkrun run, and a short visit to the gym, since June, when I was 2 stone lighter and ten minutes quicker over 5km!
Should have some cattle in over the next few days too, which will make a difference.

I bagged up a ton of wheat in 1/2cwt bags yesterday for a shoot, and was thinking how all seed and fert used to be in 1cwt bags.
I was sweating and blowing after that ton, but used to be able to handball off and stack up 15 ton without thinking about it in the old days.
I agree it's not as physical a job as it used to be. Was just wondering how those that are employees find their employers feel about them turning up to work the next day with legs like lead when there are cattle to round up etc

Just found this thread.

The past week have been a big revitalization for me. After being a typical Male for for the past 15+months I finally got myself around to a physio to start sorting out that niggling pain in my right hip which I have been living with and working around it just ignoring it.

The past few months I've realised that I've slowly been changing every aspect of how I live to accommodate this constant pain. The last time I was out on my bike(which I love) was more than 12months ago and after about 80km I was in serious pain so got home placed bike carefully in shed and left it there. Even down to how I stand has changed to take weight off my right leg.

So went to the physio and after an hour had diagnosed the problem sorted some exercises and stretches to help and a week later feel way better, plan is to get back on the bike in the next 2weeks as well as a more intense strength training with the physio to prevent it from happening again.

Really looking forward to getting my endurance back. Will keep you up dated.

Fyi NZ has an awesome organisation called fit for farming I did a leg for there tour of nz with them back along. Does some great work.

Well you lads have inspired me to do something about it too. Just don't do the physical work anymore, we used to bale thousands of small bales and handle them all twice, now everything is in rounds and gets shifted sitting down.
Anyhoo, bought a C2 rower, and am up to 6k in 25mins and do not feel like a heart attack candidate after 800m anymore.
Cut out cakes and crap and have shed 5lb last week.:)

I done 30 something years in the meat trade, all aspects from wholesale, retail & slaughter. Used to think nothing of lumping quarters of beef off lorries etc.

Now flying a desk in the NHS........ "transferable skills". :)

Sadly sitting on a chair all day getting little exercise isn`t good........ can`t be doing with gyms & folk laughing at the old fat bloke....so took to the running. :D

You may think that is what people are thinking but they're not really. Probably more admire you for getting on with it.

@SilliamWhale ... I know, but sometimes whats in your head isn`t the reality!

Had session 4 with my PT Psycho last night. We done "core & upper body strength" .

I nearly came to work in a bucket..... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Keep at it mate. Somedays will be hard dragging your sorry arse to the gym but more often than not 10 mins in you will have your head in the right place. Also if you can do it when not really feeling it then those days you are up for it suck it up and push yourself.
Nowdays if I do not train I feel like I am letting myself down , yes not an issue if you have something more important to do but do not kid yourself.

Keep thinking I am nearly ready to start back in the gym and then an old injury goes pop and I'm back sat on the sofa on an evening with my computer! I am pad man for this little heathen and his mates and he hit the pad high and has strained my wrist flexors - again! The day before yesterday so that's the gym out the window for me. Satisfying to watch the little devils getting better though:

Thought I'd make first foray on here. I've been wanting to improve fitness but no need to lose weight. Tried few things but didn't click, but for last 8 month's I've been doing krav maga twice a week. Totally recommend it for anyone looking to improve fitness and release some stress!

Took up karate after an "incident" when the red mist descended.
Helps with mindfulness and self control when you know you could hurt someone badly if you wished. :)
