I agree it's not as physical a job as it used to be. Was just wondering how those that are employees find their employers feel about them turning up to work the next day with legs like lead when there are cattle to round up etc25+ years ago working on a farm was far more active, even arable. I'd lose huge amounts of weight over harvest, and be fit as a flea at the end of it.
These days, the summer is when I pile the weight on, no animals to look after and weeks of just sat in machines. I have this evening done my first non-Parkrun run, and a short visit to the gym, since June, when I was 2 stone lighter and ten minutes quicker over 5km!
Should have some cattle in over the next few days too, which will make a difference.
I bagged up a ton of wheat in 1/2cwt bags yesterday for a shoot, and was thinking how all seed and fert used to be in 1cwt bags.
I was sweating and blowing after that ton, but used to be able to handball off and stack up 15 ton without thinking about it in the old days.
