How do you regulate shin splints, leg cramps, and general exhaustion!! :scratchhead::ROFLMAO:
That am afraid is out of our power. If you do warm up first and gradually ease yourself into running distances then your body will gradually get used to it. So for example don't run a whole mile first time, about 1/4 of that and then a little more and a little more, until the bodies used to it :) I hope you feel better soon.

I just thought that was normal!! :)

I have also been given advice on stretching before & after......... I plan to do the post run stretch shortly after my traditional "lay on the grass getting my breath back" session. :D
There's a tree at the start/finish of our Parkrun, with a very convenient low branch to hang on and do that gasping heart attack thing.
The quick people are welcome to 20 minutes with it, but once they see me lumbering down the sea wall for the final time, it becomes my tree!

35 minutes 22 seconds this morning.
I might have been quicker, but I stopped spraying because of the wind last night, and went and ran the course, and was still a bit achey this morning!
I might not be the quickest overall, but I'm the quickest 19 stoner round the course!!(y) (Not that that's an entirely good thing:unsure:)
That s a good result right, what s your personal best so far? What was your starting time?
and most importantly how is the tree? Still standing?:nailbiting:

That's my quickest time so far. I was 11 minutes slower a couple of times in December.
It puts me above the 40% mark in my age category, which means 59% of men my age run it quicker than me! (n)
I didn't need the tree today, just a little sit on the fence (y)

Really becomes more apparent even more with the time I have spent doing ,reading and watching all about fitness and losing weight and the simple fact above all else
If you want to lose weight you need to go into a calorie deficit.
The gym is good for increasing muscle mass and burning some extra calories and running is good cardio but if you want to lose weight the 1st thing is eat less calories. Abbs are made in the kitchen if you want a visible 6 pack you need to get rid of fat not do 50 sot ups.
Eat 200 -300 calories a day less than you need and you will lose weight without going near your trainers.
Exercise is part of the deal and you will feel fitter for it but if you want definition and to shed lots of lbs eat the right foods .
Evening snacks are a killer its not that you eat late, time has nothing to do with it . What does happen is in an evening in front of the box it is very tempting to eat the wrong food.
It takes about 30 mins running at 5 miles an hour to burn a Mars bar so you really do pay for it.

Do you encorporate speed sessions in to your normal training? They massively help your normal pace speed up
I'm built for comfort, not speed!!!

It's something for the future, I know, but at the moment it's just a case of plodding around for as long as I can to try and burn calories to get my weight down.

Having said that, this morning's Parkrun was 31 minutes, which I was quite chuffed with. Especially as I'd run a similar distance last night too.

I'm going to start lifting again after a break of nearly one year (I have done no other fitness training in that time). Shall I just start with basic strength training or start where I left off but take it easy?

TIA

James
I suggest a few weeks of condition training getting muscles ,joints tendons ect used to being loaded again and then move back to your old regime.
I have got to a stage where I am not trying to go heavier as I do not want any injuries . You can easily get form wrong when too heavy and then you are not training for weeks or months.

Good luck and keep lifting.
