I'm going to start lifting again after a break of nearly one year (I have done no other fitness training in that time). Shall I just start with basic strength training or start where I left off but take it easy?

TIA

James

I don't know what your old program was but I'd start back in with starting strength or the likes (3x5 or 5x5), get your strength back up to near where it was then back onto your old program. Take the first week or two easy to get back into it.

When I started back in January, I did an upper/lower body split 4 days a week. Not lifting heavy, just to get my body used to it again.
Juggling child care over the holidays has been a killer and my training has suffered. I’ve been trying to do what I can but I cant wait to get back stuck in again properly!

Had some kind of horrible virus for the last 3 weeks. Its killed my appetite (not a bad thing!). Had blood tests etc......none the wiser. I did do Parkrun at Seaton seafront thinking "it`ll be flat & easier"......WRONG! It starts on shingle and has 2 x 50yard turns on shingle, you don`t need hills if you have shingle, its evil!!
@bovrill is now quicker than me!! Seems I need to up the game a bit.....

Haha! Beaten by a 19 stone behemoth! How does that feel?!

Actually, I'm down to about 17 stone now, and although I've backed off the exercise massively the last couple of months, I still feel a lot fitter than I have for years. I've done the last couple of Parkruns after a months break with no problems.
I'll give it another month and hopefully the autumn work will be easing off, and I can carry on as I was in the spring. It would be nice to shed another couple of stone over the winter.

Have a chuckle..... at our local parkrun I know there is a sharp bit of hill for the last 100 yards so I save a bit "in the tank" to blast past the folk in front of me.
Yesterday I done a group of 6 and was going for the line .....but elbowing the other bloke out the way isn`t the parkrun "spirit" !!

finally got the 3rd card in for my handicap last Wednesday played the biggest load of crap in weeks but just wanted to get it done, off 22 so can now start looking to bring it down. Thinking of entering Thursday's medal, biggest problem is I'm actually cripplingly shy and find it very hard to speak to people I don't know let alone play golf with them :banghead::banghead::banghead: :nailbiting:

If you can play the game then you have something in common with everyone there to start with. You don`t need to clear the highest hurdle, just take small steps. Hope it goes well. (y)

thanks, though 'able to play the game' is putting it a bit strongly. Main worry is being the only rabbit in with a couple of low handicapers .

Its strokeplay so not worried about scores as such, just playing like a complete muppet. Any way I'll speak to one of the pros today after I've made my weekly contribution the pension funds of dad and his mates:rolleyes:

When I started this running lark I was thinking "I must be mad".
First time the aim was get round with a bit of running and walking to get the breath back.
Then it was "I`ll only walk across the temporary car park" that we cross twice.
Then it was "I`ll only walk up the middle hill".
Then I got round the whole thing without walking.......
Its taken about 4 months but its just breaking little targets which are more in my head than anywhere else!!
Just need to up the pace to 9 minute miles or so and break the 30 minute thing!!

Got the assistant pro, who's trying to teach me which end of the bat to hold, to book me in to the comp. Going round with 4 handicapper :wideyed: and fellow rabbit (y).

The senior Pro has moved the fitting for my new irons up to Wednesday, must need the money to pay for his competing in Portugal last week.TBH when I bought them a year ago my clubhead speed with the 8i was around 64, it's currently around 80mph so definitely need to upgrade.

That's the best way to keep making progress break it down into little manageable steps and goals

So, for years now I've hovered around the mid to high 80's kg in weight. I exercise & run regularly, 3 - 4 times a week with a very good athletics coach

But, being a middle aged Australian, I am carrying a bit more around the waist than I'd like. Exercise is great for fitness, mobility & health, but doesn't do a lot for weight loss

So, I thought I'd try the 5/2 Michael Mosley idea of fasting, just skipping a few meals each week

I'm now below 80kg & 19% body fat for the first time in maybe 15 - 20 yrs

I'm shocked at how easy it is. Just don't eat much for a couple off days each week. So easy, especially if you are busy

Anyone who wants to lose a few kilos, I'd recommend giving it a try

Got on the scales last week. I'm 25-30 kg over where I want to be.

Trying this now.

It's easy to get stuck in work and not think too much about your overall fitness and well being when not actively playing sport or are over a certain age.
So I have decided to take the back2fitness challenge . 12 weeks watching what you eat and a spell in a gym for an hour a week that's all. The back2fitness program is designed by Neil Back (England 7 2003 ) and I have just the first 2 weeks and genuinely already can see a difference.
So for anyone one of us that spends too long in a tractor seat or office desk and fancies taking a step in the right direction I can recommend.
Maybe we could have a "fitness for farming " surge.https://back2fitness.co
just spend the money and buy a bigger grease gun, one that you can only just carry,
a daily routine of greasing machines first or last thing will soon get you fit
