Time to get back into shape.?

So, how's everyone getting on ?

Very poorly.

Eating out too often. :banghead:

But I have managed to clear all the debris off the treadmill in the garage.

I'm also building my lunches without a sandwich, which will save some calories.

I was down to 11st 12lbs on Saturday morning. Want to get back to under 11st :scratchhead:

I'd say 11st12lbs ought to be pretty trim if you aren't 4ft tall!! 11st??? Are you a jockey?

I haven't started, and seem to have got bigger again...:( Too close to Christmas now to start so looks like new years resolution..again..:banghead:

I can't really decide on what to do, I tried going to a gym and booked 4 sessions with a personal trainer last February which went ok but I didn't enjoy it like I used to years ago, it just didn't feel 'right' to me.

I've just sold a road bike I had for years and used maybe 10 times... I used to scuba dive but can't really justify the time or expense any more, swimming.. well I've a modified doggy paddle at the best of times, self taught so laughable technique... Never been a runner, I like long walks though, maybe that's the answer, get out and walk more....just fancy the social aspect of joining some sort of club to do something that got me mildly sweaty.... I like the thought of Yoga but seems to be just ladies of the granny persuasion that do it round here...

I'm 47, married, with three girls...the youngest of which points out my increasing girth on a regular basis which is making me realise I need to take it seriously and lose some weight.
Any suggestions? :scratchhead:

You're not the first person to ask me that :scratchhead:

If I was a jockey I'd be eating an apple, a mars bar and a can of red bull every day

I'm 5' 8", but not trim.

Used to be 9st 6lbs (with a 26" waist) when I was 20, but I looked like a Romanian orphan

Jesus H Christ, same height as me! But I'm 15st ish, haven't checked recently, maybe more now.. I don't think I EVER had a 26inch waist. I barely recall having a 36inch waist.
I recently had an awful experience where I caught a glimpse of myself in a shop mirror and thought I'd happened across my fat look alike..... before realising it was in fact me and I was that fat...

You need a mate or two in a similar situation. Used to go to a local climbing wall with some mates, but it sort of fizzled out.

I'm having smaller portions, less fried food, less carbs and trying to be more active (mountain bike or walking).

I have loads of clothes that I don't fit into (jeans) or that make me look fat (shirts). I can't possibly buy more clothes, because I'm from Yorkshire.

I really enjoy going to the gym. HIIT training is great. It just depends if you like training in this way or not. There is a machine in the gym that is like an escalator... set it quite brisk, put the music on and then push yourself. It is amazing how good you feel when you relax later on. Interval training is also brilliant. It is basically going fast for 30 seconds then slow for 30 seconds then fast, then slow etc etc. That has an impact. You can do it on an exercise bike, running machine or anything really. I just find the gym quite motivating as everyone is working hard. It is easy to let yourself off if you exercise at home.

Other thing you could do is get your mates over for a kick around. Or join a 5-aside league. Good laugh, you don't have to be any good and it is sociable.

I just think you need to get to a point where you enjoy that ache and tired feeling when you're relaxing in the evening. That is what keeps you doing it.

I find I drop weight in the winter, I think it's because the 3 horses are inside and I have 3 stables to clean out every day on top of my work. I quite enjoy it so it's ok. Maybe the livestock farmers among you should try doing 10 to 15 minutes forking muck into a barrow or the bucket before you start mucking out sheds with the loader? It's quite good feeling your muscles all working, I'm not suggesting you go back to doing it all by hand but a bit would give you a good workout!

so, hows everyone getting on ?

going for a 10km trail run tomorrow at 6.00 then yoga at 9.00

love it :)

Played 80 minuets of rugby 2 weeks ago. Went well but the last 20 was very hard!

Not managed to do anything else since..... until today. Spent all morning in the car so this afternoon I put on the trainers, grabbed the dog lead and off we went. Ran for about 25 minuets non stop. Not sure how far, will try and work it. First 5 minuets was hard until I caught my breath then it felt good. Will in devour to keep it up!

Not so good here with the running:( Daughter been away and its not the same on my own. Have been on her cross trainer a couple of times...its a bit boring though.
Still watching what i eat , so that's a positive.

@Juggler there's still six weeks approx to christmas, at say 2lbs loss a week that would be nearly a stone, just think how good it would feel at christmas to have lost that.
The OH, feeling left out with all this fitness malarky has bought himself a skipping rope, could you do that with your 3 girls and have fun with them at the same time?

Slightly at a tangent but does anyone have or use a Fitbit? The oh has mentioned it and wonder if it would be a good Xmas present? She’s training (better than me!!) for a 10k in the spring. Any advice much appreciated!!

If she's mentioned it....I'd say a good idea(y)

The daughter has an ap on her phone and she sets it when we go for a run. It does make you want to improve each time, and as I'm pretty useless with this sort of thing i'd probably go for a Fitbit if I was doing it on my own.
There again, I might not do it at all if on my own:rolleyes:
