Fitbit blaze is a cracking tool. Pair it with the app and she will have loads of info on her phone - heart rate, sleep pattern, text messages, see who is ringing her, etc. Great job. [emoji106]

I haven't started, and seem to have got bigger again...:( Too close to Christmas now to start so looks like new years resolution..again..:banghead:

I can't really decide on what to do, I tried going to a gym and booked 4 sessions with a personal trainer last February which went ok but I didn't enjoy it like I used to years ago, it just didn't feel 'right' to me.

I've just sold a road bike I had for years and used maybe 10 times... I used to scuba dive but can't really justify the time or expense any more, swimming.. well I've a modified doggy paddle at the best of times, self taught so laughable technique... Never been a runner, I like long walks though, maybe that's the answer, get out and walk more....just fancy the social aspect of joining some sort of club to do something that got me mildly sweaty.... I like the thought of Yoga but seems to be just ladies of the granny persuasion that do it round here...

I'm 47, married, with three girls...the youngest of which points out my increasing girth on a regular basis which is making me realise I need to take it seriously and lose some weight.
Any suggestions? :scratchhead:

Yoga is awesome, it does really help with aches and pains. I have been several time with my other half. Squash is some thing I play, couple evenings a week for an hour, doesn't take up to much time. It's great for building up a sweat, play matches in a club and not overly expensive. £32 membership a year. Cheaper that most sports I feel.

I did my first Park Run on Saturday morning, it's a nationally organised thing, and very impressive. 5km run, fully stewarded, timed and results on their web page a couple of hours later. And most importantly, free!:)
There were about 70 runners at the one I went to, about 4 miles away, but double that at Maldon, about 10 miles away. I took 42 minutes, but as I pointed out, propelling my nineteen and a half stone round at that pace must use the same energy as a ten stoner getting round in 21 minutes (y):scratchhead::ROFLMAO:
I've got the YFC tug of war team I coach doing it for winter training, so we've all got moral support, and the pester power of not letting anyone miss a week!
My legs had stopped aching by Tuesday morning, just in time to spend half an hour wrestling with pigs in the back of a trailer!:wideyed:

Weighed in this morning.

Now 11st 9lbs and feeling like a shadow of my former self (y)

If I can stay off the burgers, chinese, sandwiches, crsips, chips, ice cream, biscuits etc etc etc etc for another 2 months, I should be back under 11st before Christmas :angelic:

I would have a bash at a 5km fun run, if I can find one locally on a Sunday. Walking 9km back from the pub is no bother (y)

I find I drop weight in the winter, I think it's because the 3 horses are inside and I have 3 stables to clean out every day on top of my work. I quite enjoy it so it's ok. Maybe the livestock farmers among you should try doing 10 to 15 minutes forking muck into a barrow or the bucket before you start mucking out sheds with the loader? It's quite good feeling your muscles all working, I'm not suggesting you go back to doing it all by hand but a bit would give you a good workout!

I do a fair bit of the mucking out job with the fork, got plenty of pens you can't get at with the loader here! It's usually a case of hitching up the spreader pulling up to the pen and filling the spreader up using the hand fork. Takes me a bit over 1hr to do a load I would say, good hard work, but feels good clearing a pen like that!

2nd Parkrun this morning, knocked a couple of minutes off my time, but I feel like recovery will be a lot quicker this week.
I've blown the cobwebs off my old cross trainer, so I'll try and get it set up so if I'm watching any telly this week, I only do it while using that. I'll either get myself lean and fit for Christmas, or never watch TV again!

Although regularly exercising 3 - 4 times a week, I haven't done much running for quite a while, staring to get back into it
Beautiful this morning along the river, pretty happy with my time considering I'm a bit rusty :) 8km in 45 minutes

running with others, especially ones who are a bit faster than you & who will push / carry you along a bit makes all the difference
Yup. I used to run by myself all the time and it made you very focused on what you were doing. When my long term mate from Glasgow used to visit though, we would get the trainers on and hit the training runs. He'd always been a better athlete than me, but we hadn't run together for years, and it was a brilliant feeling to be able to match him all the way.

Having even one other person to run with kicks in the competitive spirit on one level, and just provides you with company and encouragement on another level.

It makes the training so much easier. (y)

yeah, I have a regular group who I exercise with through the week & its pretty much the same people I run with, varying ages, male, female, different fitness levels, all good & pretty social as well.

Ive done the City to Surf fun run a few times in Sydney ( 14 km, from Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach, one of the biggest fun runs in the world, over 100,000 people ), anyway, it was such a party atmosphere with bands & music & well wishers along the way & the atmosphere & running with so many people, it was great, it just really pumped you up in a way that running on your own cant.

for the record, my city to surf times were all under 80 minutes

yeah, I did yoga today. I always do about 3 or 4 exercise classes a week at 6.00am, but yoga is at 9.15 am which does sorta bugger the morning . . . I started doing it earlier in the year at a point when work wasn't that busy, but I got that much out of it that I decided to keep doing it & being self employed, work can just fit around yoga :)

We should start a strava group for runners, we have a tff one for cycling and it’s helped me keep motivated when I was first starting off and getting bike fit, you don’t want others thinking you’ve given up so you push yourself to go out and when you’d rather sit and eat cake (y)
Well it does me but I’m quite competitive :barefoot:

As for Fitbit, from my running clubs I can say they often break but they have an excellent customer service (y) I prefer my tomtom runner but that’s more because I’m not fussed on my step count and more my running pace (y)
