It's easy to get stuck in work and not think too much about your overall fitness and well being when not actively playing sport or are over a certain age.
So I have decided to take the back2fitness challenge . 12 weeks watching what you eat and a spell in a gym for an hour a week that's all. The back2fitness program is designed by Neil Back (England 7 2003 ) and I have just the first 2 weeks and genuinely already can see a difference.
So for anyone one of us that spends too long in a tractor seat or office desk and fancies taking a step in the right direction I can recommend.
Maybe we could have a "fitness for farming " surge.https://back2fitness.co

3 mornings a week I do an hour of exercise in a group class at 6.00am
do an hour of yoga through the week as well

best thing ive done, physically, mentally & the group social aspect is great also
Really easy to say you don't have time. Much harder to say I don't have the will power. Health is an investment that will pay you back better than most.

yeah, I had a post in " Your typical day" where I did make the comment that some things are more important than just "work"

Obesity is a real issue here, as it is in most of the western world ( obviously no shortage of cheap food for the masses, but i'll leave that for another thread :) ), but apart from just weight, mobility is a HUGE issue once we get into our 50's & beyond, with regards to quality of life.

it never ceases to amaze me some people in their 70's / 80's who still have a spring in their step & a twinkle in the eye, while you see others in their 50's / 60's who hobble about with bad knees or too fat, who have trouble getting out of a chair or climb a set of steps . . .
Apart from the health benefits, staying fit allows me to enjoy my life & activities ( eg riding motorbikes across deserts ) much more

every generation for god knows how long has lived longer than the previous. I think that is going to reverse with the current / future generations

Disappointing to not see much interest here . . .

Anyway, how is the challenge going?

There is nothing better you can do for yourself than looking after your health & working on fitness & mobility, especially in your 50's & later

Good luck with it ay (y)

Just restarted playing golf after a gap of 12yrs. Original plan was to practice on the local range until April but playing one local course today and another on Monday. In the middle of rebuilding my swing so things are a bit wayward which gets me parts of the course I've never been before, loads of exercise though as long as you don't take a buggy, new driver just arrived in yesterday so feck knows where the ball will end up today. Had to replace all my old clubs as I don't load the shafts as much I used to gone from stiff to 'senior' shafts, old age is a bit of a bugger .

Dad(84) is just back after a week of playing links courses oop narf and says he doesn't want to pick up a club again ............... until Monday, he's still incredibly fit so obviously playing 5 or 6 rounds of golf a week good for your health (y) I had a hell of a job keeping up with him around Southerness a couple of weeks ago:dead:

I re started playing rugby last season, got relatively fit again only to let it slide over the summer “to busy working “. Played rugby last week and I was embarrassing unfit. Only play for 2nd XV now but there were people watching who remember watching me in my hay day and they were more than happy to point out my fitness and speed determination!!! Time to get fit... will follow this thread as inspiration!!

Just found this thread, I've been thinking the same thing about getting into better shape, I've quit drinking pop, that's a big one for me, I was drinking WAY to much of it, not only is it not healthy but it's high in calories. I've only been off of it for 5 days and I do feel better, don't feel so tired weak.
For my exercise lately I've been spreading manure on the fields using a old 1950's wheel driven spreader, I'm pulling it with my '55 Farmall 400 and there is a lot of climbing up and down up and down up and down. After a while it gets tired some (n):ROFLMAO:

I like weight lifting. I have lifted on and off over the summer but haven't done for 2 months:eek: now. I am very keen to get back at it, next week hopefully. I have a strong urge to do deadlifts:ROFLMAO:. I have also tried crossfit. If you keep at it you'll certainly get fit and it is social, however the cost has put me off for now.

Every year I either eat pies all summer and spend winter slimming down, or end up sat in the seat so long all my muscles wither away. This year it is the latter and I have lost maybe a stone sat being a plough pilot. Used to enjoy the local gym but the 20 minute drive is a pain, so am going to have to do some weight bearing exercise and activity to get the heart going.....

.....will start with attempting to carry Mrs Static to the bedroom. Fnar, fnar, fnar!
