Lib Dem’s were third behind labour in north Shropshire last general election with the conservatives having a 25,000 seat majority yet won by a 6,000 majority at the by election before Christmas.
Depends on the mood of the people but a swing to labour is a step too far for many long term conservative voters who aren’t happy with things at the present so the Lib Dem’s are a more palatable choice as a protest vote and if it looks like a possibility that they’ve got a chance will even attract some labour voters if they think it will chuck a Tory out of a safe seat.

Labour are not going to win in rural devon. Liberals a very much viewed with suspicion after Jeremy Thorpe. Doesn’t really matter who the person is the blue rosette will win.

They thought that in north Shropshire, a local farmer came to give me a good talking to after I’d liked and shared a post on Facebook from the Lib Dem’s, basically to tell me how foolish I was, that a chimpanzee with a blue rosette could win in north Shropshire (his words not mine) and that he was going to stick a conservative plackard at the end of my drive, he had a pick up full of them.
I didn’t care for his bully boy tactics, removed the conservative plackard and invited the Lib Dem’s to place one there instead. Not that I’m a supporter of the Lib Dem’s really but as a safe conservative seat we had had an MP who did little if anything for local matters and was only seen when he could get his face in the media, he was kicked out in disgrace and the tories were looking to plant an outsider, a city boy who knew nowt of rural matters into a safe seat.
My support for the lib dems was as a protest at the way the tories treated the constituents of what they thought was a safe seat. If they learn from their mistake and field a decent local candidate at the next election they will have a good chance of getting my vote but it does seem that our new MP is working hard on local matters unlike her predecessor so they really will have to come up with an excellent candidate to regain my vote. Somehow the current government don’t inspire me with confidence that they have the ability to do that.

The Hurford Woman has gone down very badly with anyone she has engaged with ( which is few and far between )

One meeting with local farmers with the Lid Dem/ Labour and the Hurford woman in attendance as the meeting came to a close the organizer stood up and said there would be Coffee afterwards and he hoped the farmers/ all three from the party's would stay and chat, well both the Lab and Lib Dem people spent ages chatting to every farmer in the room!

The Hurford woman got up as soon as the organizer sat down, brushed past someone trying to speak to her and walked straight out....

Will be very intresting to see the result tomorrow but at my local polling station there seemed a lot of people coming and going all day to vote!
