TM120 Pto cutting out

I’ve been having trouble with the pto cutting out for a while on a Tm120 classic. So far I’ve check Alternator and wiring, pto speed sensor, wiring loom under the floor, seat wiring, the local dealers switched the pto brake solenoid around and did all of the above as well but It’s still playing up. Although It’s one of those annoying faults that doesn’t happen as soon as the local dealers van turns up!

It only tends to do it when it’s hot and bouncing around, I can run the baler all day without a fault but if I use the mower it’s going off all the time. It generally works again if I turn ignition off and on again, sometimes it will blow the fuse. It could be coincidence but it seems to cut out when turning right on a steepish downhill to across the hill.

So just before I get the mower out again, has anyone got any ideas where to look? Thanks in advance

Right I’m probably no use here but I had the exact same issue on a tm classic model 3 years ago. Only happened when mowing as well. I changed the alternator and as well as that I swapped the solenoids around. I’m no mechanic but it hasn’t happened since so either of those two things fixed it for me. Ironic thing is I still have an intermittent dash issue where the Rev counter goes to zero but pto still works even when the dash problem happens. Anyways no issues with pto since those 2 changes.

Ive had the same problem- sometimes the pto would stay on for an hr and sometimes only a few mins. Changed the alternator and have never had the problem since.

Thanks for the replies. That’s actually really helpful, sounds like the alternator is the thing to try. Did you go for a genuine alternator? I know they’re pretty pricey! Thanks again

we have a real handy fella not too far from us who works at auto electrical stuff and he reconditioned it for me. He will also tell you if it works out better value to just buy new rather than paying him👍

Just wanted to check, was your alternator giving a good 14v but you changed it anyway? Mine is giving a good reading.

The 2 small wires from the alternator aren’t broken anywhere, will tape them up anyway though.

thanks again

I'm not sure to be honest, I was pretty sure the alternator was at fault so just took it off and left it into the fella.

Does it have a button on the mudguard outside to stop/start the pto? We have on 6070 and get breaks in the wires going to the switch or a dodgy switch. Stops the pto staying on. Mechanic turns the switch off on the dashboard using a plug in a diagnostic? socket. Cant then use switch on mudguard but allows you to use one in the cab until properly fixed.
