Its no more a potential killer than the previous strains!

And given they have known about this strain since last July its strange how all of a sudden its such a big problem!
And you know this how? It may not be a killer for 97% of the population, maybe it just involves different levels of illness with some long term affects that we are not sure of, no government could just let it run wild not caring about that 3 % it kills, you may be able to do that but a government of all the people could not!

It is NOT going to kill anything like 3% of the population!

Of the first 3 people that were found in the UK with the new strain one had already left the country and the other two had came back from abroad and tested as they are required to do so and were positive yet had no symptons at all...

The percentages do not really mater, as can be seen around the world no government can simply wash their hands of it & do nothing abandoning their people to their fate, they may not be doing it the right way but no one can be 100% sure for now what is the right way.
It's very easy for us to be armchair experts with no repercussions whatever if we get it totally wrong, governments do not have that luxury!

No, I said I recalled you posting that you'd had it. Why would I care if you had antibodies?

Edit: Phrased that wrong. I'm pleased you have antibodies but you didn't need to have the test for me.
You asked me if I had had an antibody test in post 563, you brought it up charlie, whilst saying" how do you know you've had it?"

What has ever killed 3% of the population recently?

If you want to take the precautionary principal to such an extent you couldn't do anything. Every new virus or strain that comes along we go back to pretending we could all die! Its madness

Why do you think Governments are so paternalistic? They don't have a history of being so.

We had a pandemic plan which was worked on every year. They thew it out and went for lockdowns, totally baffling. And the media bounced us into it too

Of course if a family member were to die because of what we believe then that may not be the case

Looking at job ads and post by existing staff Tesco pay is about £9.30 to £9.75 an hour though night shifts can earn about £2.35 extra.
Nurse’s salaries are not a secret. The average salary is around £35,000/year, which includes starting salaries.

• Band 5: £25,655 to £31,534

• Band 6: £32,306 to £39,027

• Band 7: £40,057 to £45,839

• Band 8a: £47,126 to 53,219

• Band 8b: £54,764 to £63,861

• Band 8c: £65,664 to £75,874

• Band 8d: £78,192 to £90,387

• Band 9: £93,735 to £108,075

The upper ranges of each banding are achieved by performing the role within that banding for a certain number of years.

Some of the at risk groups who had the first jab very early on are being told they will need a 4th jab asap to protect against the new strain.
Since even if a modified vaccine is needed due to the current ones not protecting against the new variant, the new vaccine will not even start production within three months. So the ASAP is not ‘soon’.

The cost to the economy has been so savage I don't believe we will see any more lockdowns whatever happens. We will just have to learn to live with this virus and at some point in the future it will have disappeared into the woodwork as just another coronavirus.

I sort of agree with that. But they way covid has been represented and continues to be represented politically is criminal in my book.
I don't understand why politicians aren't up to date with the correct information. They aren't helping. When Saj made his speech today I heard the opposition quoting that figure from the Guardian article saying masks reduce transmission by >50%.

Yes but what is the point of trying to get everyone to have the current vaccine shot ( 3rd shot ) when they have said it will not work against this new strain??

Better off to give a third shot to the very high at risk group and hold fire on everyone else untill/ if a rejigged vaccine is needed for this new strain.

Because if you have the 3rd shot now and then this new strain turns out to be a problem ( which is very unlikely ) then you will be forced into having a 4th shot so nigh on taking a vaccine every 3 months... that is just plain nuts!
