To mask up or not?

Last night to The Engine Shed to see The Charlatans. Great gig. Tim Burgess and the band in great form. Crumbs is it that long ago since the boys were on Top of the Pops. Not a full house but probably 1200 folk in the 'Shed' Not a mask in sight save for a couple of the venue staff - who were students so probably least vulnerable age group. Tickets inspected but not a Covid passport checked. Normal. But got my mask ready for a few minutes when I pop into the newsagents to collect my copy of The Times.
I hope they played ‘the only one I know’ it would be worth getting the Omicron variant for that.

I have listened, and drew my own conclusions.
Masks are "kidology" - if you wear a surgical mask and hold a feather near your mouth and speak you will see that the feather moves, put it near your eyes and again it moves BUT do the same with a very similar N95 respirator and it's a different story. N95 respirators stop at least 95% of viral loading from reaching you - so why aren't the health authorities requiring there use (especially in care homes, etc?). When cov19 first appeared and we knew little about it the WHO assumed it was spread by droplets from our breath which could only travel about a meter before gravity took them to the ground, hence the 2 meter rule. We now know that was wrong and coc19 is in fact a vaporised spray which passes directly through surgical masks and is capable of travelling hundreds of meters in even a light breeze.

But politicians love control so they do (or don't) demand we wear masks and any old ones will do. They demand (or don't) that we stay 2 meters apart. Anyone with 2 brain cells should know that when a politicians lips are moving - they are lying!

Maybe your investigation should edge towards what masks do in the context of this pandemic. They have a positive effect in reducing droplet travel. Every little bit of reduction helps curb the virus so we can return to normal activities ~ especially where ventilation is good.

Expecting instant surgical sterility of action in a real world where we all need to get on with life as best we can despite the virus is unrealistic, and was from the outset of these quibbles from particular quarters. It's boring, nobody likes wearing them, but they help. End of.

Years ago my two eldest, in early teens, wanted to see Oasis at Gloucester. Obviously I had to go with them as chaperone ;)

Couple of years later son went to see the Charlatans there, I was all ready but even his mum agreed he was old enough just to go with mates, so I missed out on that one.

(The guitar riff on One to another is ace, btw)

The inventor of the Astrazeneca vaccine has also said a booster is unneccessary for healthy younger people...

Astrazeneca have so far provided their jab on a none profit basis but will make a small profit next year, they say a booster is unnecessary.
Boss of Pfizer who will make $35 billion from their jab say we’ll need boosters for years, surprise surprise!!!

Doctors and nurses vent anger as unvaccinated Covid cases delay vital operations

The NHS has a backlog of 5.8 million waiting for surgery and specialists are increasingly frustrated at how the unvaccinated have left them unable to tackle it

Bit nasty... Maybe doctors and nurses who did not work during the pandemic should have thier pay and pensions cut and given to colleagues who did as a COVID bonus. Future pay should be performance related... NHS staff seeing NHS care as a weapon to wield will end the NHS before anything else

Not to mention its nonsense, never been more than 15% of beds WITH covid here in NI since February and usually below 10%.Most of those are vaccinated and almost all have comorbidities / in for something else.
Its disgusting how the media get away with this sort of thing. A BBC NI article yesterday about hospice care for younger patients was basically about how awful the restrictions have been for young families receiving end of life care during pandemic with no quotes from nurses regarding people dying of covid. Here's the headline and 1st paragraph:

Yes, clearly from the headline,...young people in hospices with covid!! but not talking about that in the article at all, because it's not happening!
Just designed to make a link in heads and get clicks. it's very cynical and typical of bbc

I take it in Kenya the fuss is all over. Ordinary folk are just trying to get on a scrap a living. How is the vaccination going in ordinary folk?
It’s not really an issue here although going into shops they check your temperature and make you sanitize your hands and they are still keen on masks. Vaccination is going on but people aren’t keen so they’re trying to stop unvaccinated using public transport etc. It’s really being done to appease the cowardly west who will punish us once our infection rate approaches 1 per cent of yours because they know we can’t count. Honestly I felt more frightened in TK max in Lincoln than I’ve ever done here and more because I might have tested positive and got stuck whilst Boris implemented a new travel ban.

Another bit of data for @Highland Mule the fanatic who called me an idiotn when I pointed out many more people who were vaccinated were in hospital than unvaxxed. In fact it isn't far off the ratio of unvaxxed to vaxxed in the population. Admittedly we don't know if these people were inpatients for covid alone - probably a proportion of them.

93% with confirmed covid were vaccinated. 7% unvaccinated.

Vaccine passports now...look out covid fanatics - it won't end well for anyone
