Today’s Disaster

If anyone sees a green-handled penknife could they let me know.
Currently in early stages of a grief reaction.

If it’s any consolation I lost my favourite penknife in a field I was ploughing ( probably 40 years ago now ) but I found it again the following year, again when ploughing. I also have a favourite long pry bar that just seems to be useful for everything. I lost that also in a field, however several months later my customer found it. Many years later I used it when sorting the baler out for transport home and left it on the ground. I didn’t realise it was missing until I got home so went back to get it. Although I could clearly see the spot I’d cleaned the baler off I was nowhere to be seen. The following year I picked it up with the baler and it jammed the plunger knife. Hardly a nick on the baler knives and a slight score on the pry bar was the only damage. Hopefully you’ll find your knife, even if it’s several years later.

The proliferation of dashcams should be meaning this sort of behaviour will more often be seen by the plod. Very easy fine and points if caught on camera.

I had some kids doing that to me. Slowing right down, then speeding up if I tried to pass. So I took a piece of paper and pretended to be writing down their number as I steered with my elbows. Problem solved! They sped off looking very worried -- fun over.

I might find the Claydon leading tine that I lost in a field this year yet then!

My metal detecting exploits seem to mostly turn up things I lost myself. Last year it was the starting handle from our old S2 Land Rover, now I've found the badge from the front of the Nuffield which I retired in 1990. It's a bit like a job creation scheme:)
