Frantic work between 6 and 9am this morning trying to get the new pen ready for incoming pigs.
Just managed it although my concrete hadn't cured and they'd already disturbed the surface before i got it covered....

Predominantly pedigree stock for once

These guys had been free range since about a week old and they're now 9 weeks, managed to get them caught up in the trailer and they're now behind bars with the new guys

Started the day moving a kitchen I'd been storing for a neighbour to his house close by with the teleporter :)

Well @Great In Grass , we now have the result of the maize undersown with grass experiment. I'd say it was a usefull trial but the maize just shaded the grass out too much in many places.

Where the maize was more open the grass did better

and where the maize was thin it was a very good take

My fear that the grass could hold the maize back certainly didn't materialize - It yielded a little over 20 tonnes per acre

Next time I'll sow the grass earlier to let it get established before it gets too shaded.

A question for the ploughmen out there if I may. Plough in question is a KV on 28 bodies.... the best finish I can do is well a picture says it all! How on earth do you not leave a finish that needs 2 passes with a parrow harrow to fill it in! View attachment 581274
I had a special spacer hanging by the depth wheel on a bit of band, that used to sit above the stop and mean the back furrow was only ploughing 2 inches.
I had to get off to put the spacer in place but when I lifted out at the end it fell out and dangled ready for next final run. :cool:;)

Firstly, very good maize yield.

Remind me what leaf stage was the maize at when you sowed the grass seed.
Perhaps we try a couple of grass mixtures next time? All very interesting though. (y)

I had this plan for the Moffett to follow the drill with the 4m combi. Everything was fine until I actually put the seed into the drill.
Tractor refused to lift it. :cry::cry:
I knew it was pushing the boundaries to put a 4m combi onto basically a 7840.
No pictures.

And I've been recognised. :cool::cool:
I had a visitor to buy a couple of spare bits and he turned out to be a member on here, but as he pointed out to me several times ;) he's not a stalker! :eek::eek:
@general dogsbody nice to meet you.
Autograph hunters always welcome. :pompous::pompous:

The maize was just emerging, 29th May. On the basis of this trial I will not worry about the grass competing next time and will spread and roll the grass seed in before the maize emerges. It'll be on a 16 acre field of unkind clay next time :unsure:
