decent looking cattle do you buy them in and fatten?View attachment 645964 View attachment 645966 View attachment 645968 View attachment 645972 Mucked out along the front today. Can’t beat a freshly made bed.
I’ve got these cattle on some silage now, with lots of red clover in it. I’ve cut the concs right back, as they weren’t that bothered to clean up and they were getting a bit loose.
Pretty much ad lib silage. How much 17% nut would you feed on top. They are 5 to 6 months old in one group, 7 to 8 in the other.
Don’t want them as far as butter, as they will go out to graze all summer.
@gone up the hill @Henarar @Northeastfarmer ?
Thanks. Don’t fatten anything. Will sell as stores or bullersdecent looking cattle do you buy them in and fatten?
do you just buy them off a dairy farmer once theyre off the milk?Thanks. Don’t fatten anything. Will sell as stores or bullers
Bought them from a farmer that buys in calves, rears them to 4 to 5 months old in batches of around 30. He also fattens a lot of Angus and Herefords , but does this as an extra enterprise now both his sons are home.do you just buy them off a dairy farmer once theyre off the milk?
Will you get them for 4-500 rear/graze and put through the store ring for 1000ish?Bought them from a farmer that buys in calves, rears them to 4 to 5 months old in batches of around 30. He also fattens a lot of Angus and Herefords , but does this as an extra enterprise now both his sons are home.

I can't "like" that. 45 is a tragedy.Well lifting beet hasn't happened.
East wind with minus temps equals frozen beet for a 2nd time I suppose when they are fit to go at least we might be able to travel. The cold wind has dried things a little.
So the other task for the day was attending this.
