What was it with min-till that put you off? We've done all sorts the last few years from ploughing through to strip till and to be honest of all the systems the old solo, leave, spray off, drill then roll approach did'nt do us any harm. The only reason it encouraged blackgrass was if we didn't stick to the system of leaving it and spraying it off. Crops were always more even going into winter.

I like to see people buck the trend, if it works for you, why change it?
Blackgrass which is mixed into the soil profile instead of buried. Our Roundup bill has now dropped by 80% thanks to returning to the plough.

what header on the 68, 10 or 12 foot does it have the same internals as a senator or like the bigger dominators, dad had a matador good combine esp.when the dust come straight up from the header(y)
12ft on our dom.
Well the header's got reel speed adjustment in cab and hydraulic pushing the reel backwards and forward. And a reverser too. All very handy in things like peas, linseed etc.
Now whether that's standard I'm not so sure. Looking at a few of the brochures  I have.... they were extras for the header.

Also this year we've had a bit of a problem with the header in that the knife drive shaft sheared in half:eek:.
Replacement shaft for a standard dom 68 header is 35mm as opposed to the 30mm that was on there :scratchhead:.
So the pulley and concentric drive didn't fit. Not sure now if it's a repair that was done on the cheap, or the whole header was off something like a senator but with the extras added on. Also since the combine is from silsoe agricultural mechanical research institute and was used for stripper header research/development, we arn't sure if the header came with the combine when new or sourced later on?

Our old matador wasn't a bad old bus. An airstream helmet helped with the dust!
Just got completely worn out.
