From over the weekend - Muck spreading contractor phoned on Saturday , "can I bring the JCB today ready for spreading tomorrow (there was me expecting a Loadall and muck fork!

found some barbed wire - that was nice ! I hate cutting out ditches for the first time - at least I know all of mine are clean ( this one is now !)

incidentally whilst removing:banghead: the barbed wire also found the quickest way to shorten ones pen knife

Just a photo of some sheep. But this is the first time since at least the War that these fields have seen livestock. And that's not the 2nd war! We have been here since 1911 and there are no field records of anything other than cropping. Even the very old 1760's map shows these fields in the strip tillage system.

Fields have always been well mucked over the years, latterly compost and chicken litter, don't really know what this lot will do for us but it sort of feels right. "glad to see you lot doing some proper farming" was a neighbours comment. Always hard to work out the benefits, a lot of fencing cost, but should do the land good, the 1300 tegs look very well on it. I guess having been stock free for so long its probably good for them as well. 120 acres of stubble turnips after wheat, decent bulbs, should see this lot through for another month or so with a bit of fodder beet to supplement. Not our sheep, I only have to look at them, not look after them!!

Back to digging today again, taking stands and floors out of a byte ready to be converted into a hostel. First job is getting in, 6ft high door and digger is 8ft so breaking and digging to get low enough

Sad to see the old byres go.Bet theres been some man hours of work in there,and some warm comfy cows in Winter.
