I've heard about this. How does it work?
We live a long way from the exchange as do many around us, we got together and found some money to provide a system for 5 villages (it was £75K) and now anyone can get an aerial and pay about £20 per month for a 16 meg up and 16 meg down system as long as they can see a distribution point. In comparison my old system which beamed the internet very slowly down wires to my home costed similar and managed 0.2 up and 0.2 down as long as no one else in the area was online.

You can pay more for higher speed, there will shortly be fibre to the main hub I hope and that will give us 200 each way with the current equipment.

I needed a broadband link for a sow feeder and will hopefully be able to use the same system for calving cameras.

that looks cold and very wintry up there ,......nothing like that down here

Aye, we've had a dusting of snow, trying it's best to melt.
Could just do with it clearing up for a few days so we can get a feed wagon in with some more nuts.
Our road is a gravel forestry track in a valley that doesn't get sun, after snow it becomes impassable to anything except 4x4s

I've yet to have a set of LED trailer lights that have not given trouble.

Whenever I replace trailer lights now I fit incandescent units.

That tells a story!

LEDs were always sold as being longer lasting and more reliable. Cheap ones never seem to last I find tho...maybe too many corners cut in the manufacturing process trying to reduce the price.

Always stick to a known brand now....though whether that helps I can’t yet comment.

How much of s fuel in australia at the monent.it seems to go up and down weekly here.£1.37 litre fir diesel and petrol about 10p less
Nick...

it varies widely across the country depending on location ( location is the big one, obviously freight is a consideration, but also competition from other sellers & the size of the population is the main contributor. City prices are quite a bit cheaper than country - more than can be explained by just freight )

price also varies a bit through the week & on weekends ( this is more pronounced in city areas ) & also depending on "Singapore Crude" prices & our currency . . .

on this day, diesel was $1.39 / l, although a couple of weeks ago it was over $1.50 / l
we don't have "red" diesel. Diesel is diesel is diesel . . .It ALL comes out the same tank.
we can claim a rebate of 40 c / l ( effectively, the road tax component ) for "eligible off road use". This CANNOT be used for freight or road transport. Obviously, with our distances, fuel is a major contributor to freight costs
So, our "eligible off road use" diesel costs around $1 - $1.20 / l
isn't your "red" around 50 - 60 p / l ? which works out about the same, or a bit cheaper, depending on exchange rates

err, petrol - same things apply re cost variation
depending on grade of petrol price here ranges from a bit less than diesel to 20 - 30 c more for "premium" 98  Suffice to say, I never buy 98 . . .

Not my day at work but congratulations to Amy Bateman, Croft Foot Farm , Cumbria

She was placed Overall Winner in the British Life Photography Awards with this self-portrait

“Lambing Intensive Care”
Croft Foot Farm, Cumbria

"I am absolutely thrilled to have won this competition, it’s an incredible honour knowing the strength of photographic passion and talent in our country. I am particularly heartened to have won with a picture portraying rural life. This is my life, and my passion. Being a photographer living on a farm I am witness to light, conditions and images that bring so much pleasure to my life and I am overjoyed they do the same for others.

"This is a self-portrait. At lambing time we occasionally get lambs that are poorly or need human support to survive. The light from the heat lamp casts a gentle glow over my small flock, the rustle of straw as the healthier lambs gamble around and the smell of the milk substitute being fed by hand provides an all-consuming experience which I was keen to portray in a picture. Using a tripod and timer I set about on my mission during the last feed of the day before bed, the lambs thankfully, were more interested in being fed than my camera."

Mate of mine lived in a remote corner of rural NSW whilst undertaking part of his medical training, and he was telling me he illegally ran his Landcruiser on something called "blue diesel" (might have the colour wrong) which was dyed rebated fuel for the mining industry? Would have been getting on 20 years ago.
