Tried some drilling this morning.was far too wet and struggled to get wet soil through combination and it balled up on discs so I gave up.pic looks a lot lot better than it actually was.went about 200 yards and took half hour back in yard to dig the mud out.more rain Wednesday apparently and lots of it.the 3metre strip round the outside was drilled 4weeks ago on coming Wednesday.only done a round to get rid of some seed so I could get a bag in to go to another farm.beginning to think it could be the end for this year unless a prolonged dry spell or lots of frosts.

Me being a peasant farmer with an old conventional box drill.
How do you know the seed will be distributed evenly to the tubes?

Good question!

Either....

There’s a hamster inside the distribution head counting them all.

or....

The air flow to the distribution head is split evenly between each of the smaller pipes due to the physics of air pressure. The seed is equally suspended within the air stream and thus is carried within it in each tube. i.e each cubic ft of air contains 50g of seed or such.

or....

It just seems to work and the plants come up evenly so it suggests that it does.

(pick whichever of the above fits your beliefs and allows you to sleep at night :))

They are not. When I worked for DICKEY-john I had many conversations with major OEMs about this. We were developing a seed counting sensor and this frightened them as it would show how bad the distribution is....

Not sure
Oh yes - think it’s done about .25t/ac but looked really good until about 2 to 3 weeks ago when it got thrashed but the weather. Loads of growth in the floor and no a sign of Mr CSFB. Typical
Would it not have been better to just let the volunteers keep growing if they were that good? Might have made a nice crop next year with no sign of CSFB 😉
