Wednesday night after Wigtown Show, a tour of Barquhill with Michael McCornick

Black Galloways (Michael and Willie) , Dutch Spotted Sheep (Robbie) and Call Ducks (Caroline)

Michael on the bike showing his boundary across the Machars with Old Place of Mochrum . I can’t remember the distance between the two but it was several miles with nothing inbetween !

Lovely, hard working family , we share a common interest in the Galloways and both have a background in the marquee business also

Kindly invited back for a beer and graciously and unexpected supper served up by Caroline

Thank you to the McCornick family

Thursday: Day 1 Riggit Galloway Cattle Society Summer Jamboree 2022

And what a day. Every time we get to experience amazing stock , scenery , setting and farming

That afternoon was no exception visiting the Lomond Herds of Galloway and Belted Galloways of Duncan Maxwell farming 5000 acres of hill along Loch Lomond

40 Galloway cows and 1000 blackface ewes

The photos show the main Galloway cow group on the hill running with Zonda of Kilnstown (Andrew Waugh) , Belted group running with Mochrum Earl (Helen Ryman) and the Galloway heifers running with new stock bull Barlaes Trooper (Robert McTurk)

A big thank you to chauffeur Tim Oliver getting us up the hill and back down

Too many adders in the walls for my liking

Day 2 Riggit Galloway Summer Jamboree 2022

Kindly by invitation of Robbie Galloway, Cardona Herd , Doune

The RGCS Summer meeting was conveyed in a power washed cattle court replete with swanky foldaway tables with cloths and hand picked flowers in vases

We were treated like Royalty for refeshments including ScotBeef beef cons at lunchtime and a wonderful barbecue at the close of the day all put on by Sharon McRobert and Ewen McRobert

A pretty extensive farm tour ensued encompassing three Cardona Aberdeen Angus bull groups (70 cows and growing ), the Cardona Luing herd and finally the Cardona Riggit Galloway and White Galloway herds

We also saw Aberdeen Angus sired dairy bred finishing , new building projects and of course the spectacular setting. From the hill we could see the new South Queensferry Bridge crossing in Edinburgh , the Wallace Monument and closer to the first Angus group a smaller hill with a stone tower reputed to mark the epicentre of Scotland

The day concluded with presentations to our host including the RGCS Host relay cup suitably charged and partaken by Ewen on behalf of the Cardona Herd, the announcement of the winners of the RGCS 2022 photographic virtual show competition and , of course, token presentations to our hosts Ewen, Sharon, Nicola , Connor and Lisa who looked after us so well and with such hard work and enthusiasm

A lot of photos will now follow

The bulls featured in order will be :

Angus : Rulesmains Kai
Angus : Stouphill Peroni
Angus: Idvies Pink Prodigy
Luing: Benhur Zeppelin
Black Galloway in the Riggit and White Galloway Group : Barlaes Tam (stable mate to Barlaes Trooper that we saw at Duncan Maxwell’s Lomond Herd the day before).

The Council kyboshed our plans to go up the main Black Galloway Herd for Cardona on the hill at Callander by digging the road up ! This presents the opportunity to return to see them at a future time when the herds are swapped over

The Riggit Galloway Herd was very impressive . Now running with Black Galloway bull Barlaes Tam, the Herd was founded with TwoMills Reiver’s Boy followed by Barfil Bill (also TwoMills breeding ) with Riggit cows from Stonehouse Stonehouse Herd - Belted Galloways and TwoMills cows and Melkridge White Galloway cows

The Black Galloway cows involved in the foundation Riggit Galloway cows came from Blackcraig and Klondyke

Everyone in a friendly band of Riggit Galloway enthusiasts had a wonderful and memorable day
