Just been in to see Harry Potter for a load of sawdust

Last 4 day week until August, all seems well, and it’s June already! A lashing of rain and light show to make the short week seem longer. Mother nature is a truly beautiful and powerful force when she gets her game on.

Despite the downpours the drainage gang ploughed on in Gloucester getting the final touches to the drainage on the sportsfields and amenity area finished. Just a smidge left to do before the seed bed preparations start and the seed and fertiliser go down.

Our main man has been chasing around, looked at a sewer connection we are starting Monday, good job he did too as it is not as straight forward as first told. Going to be snug getting concrete chamber rings in that garden!! He kicked off a nice little job near Broadway earlier this week, a new sewage treatment plant to help with a new café being built. We thought there would be a bit of shale being as it in a renown Cotswold stone area, but even this lot surprised us a little. Still no problem for the soakaway! Would like to take this opportunity to ask if all those other contractors having concrete in the area would stop ordering it until we are finished please. Readymix is a bit like chickens teeth at the moment. I was going to suggest hand mixing . . . .

We seem to be having a run on drain surveys and working around churches recently. If only we had a job where someone needed a drain survey at a church. . . Well done to our father and son team, our expert drain survey/church team. A job well done at a local church near Chipping Campden, not much room to work but a thorough job backed up with photos, full report and under the watchful eye of the Church Warden. I do sometimes wonder how they actually manage to get some of the photos they take, do you guys climb in?

A new track was installed for a Rail show near Stratford upon Avon. The track we have put down is the subbase for a temporary steel roadway which apparently is having a train carriage parked on it for the duration of the show. One of those jobs where the client trusts you to get on with it and it feels good to know they have that much faith in what we do. Spec for the works were quite simple. . . we are parking a train carriage over there . . . we need an access road about 3-4m wide to go from there to there . . . carriage ways about 100 tonnes!

Would like to say a MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to our youngest employee, passed his driving test this morning first time. He kept the date quiet to avoid the ribbing, hassle, and all that “in my day” advice from the more senior of us, very sensible and it certainly paid off. Drive safe fella and enjoy your new found freedom.

Thanks for your work this week lads, muchly appreciated. It was strangely drama free, just hope I have not spoken too soon. Have a great weekend and see you all Monday.

One of the rollers on the pull out floor in the back of the nivara had a flat spot, managed to melt some plastic into it an reshape it.

And finally, the gear linkage on the sweeper had gone tight. Nothing some wd40 couldn’t sort though.

Today was an extraordinarily moving day at work. Fine balance here knowing how much to relay.

At the end of the day - and with the site guys back - we all gathered at the works to commemorate the life of a work colleague we lost to terminal illness this week. Throughout M remained stoic and polite despite being in pain.

I've only worked with the Company for a year yet I can recognise how much M meant to all who knew him, work mates and customers alike. He was fanatically loyal and withering with anyone who didn't show respect at work. M was a local man who had many jobs in the area and came to work for a sub-contractor to the Company and then for us when that was incorporated. Diagnosed in August, M expressed a wish to make a second ever trip in to Europe having liked the Company trip to Germany in 2015. He was taken to Belgium , visiting a partner company and then horse racing and much beer along the way.

Our MD, work colleagues and the family extended unbelievable help and support throughout - even stopping over during M's last night.

The finale tonight on a photo montage celebrating how we knew M and video clips of him was a YouTube video of him (in the bowler hat) having a starring role in a video by The Look (of "I am the beat" fame). Johnny their lead singer works in the Company and was a good friend of M's

M is finally at rest
