Can the drive to the front wheels on a county be disengaged?

No, not on the equal wheelers anyway, each back wheel drives the front on the same side so the diff lock gives you 4wd.
Possibly on the ones with the smaller front wheels but not sure on that.

When difflock is engaged you have real 4 wheel drive

The OCD types have to synchronise the front and rear wheels to make the centres match, the really bad ones make the valve position the same and claim it has a practical purpose. .

I could work with you very easily with the pride you have, just shows there is no excuse for not looking after and taking pride of the kit you have regardless of which sector of farming you work.
