I see this a lot on older tractors.
Tractor has a weak battery, so rather than replacing it the owner just tows it off or jump starts it. Then, they leave it with the the throttle yanked on to charge the battery.
Fast forward a while and the battery is totally goosed but they still tow it off. A totally dead (or even removed) battery means there’s not power to the regulator, causing a whopping charge from the alternator. Melted wire, blown alternator.
New battery, new alternator and a light harness repair and we’re back in business.

Finished dehorning 150 of these wee devils ! Bloody horrid job . Head yoke is a huge help though !
Out of interest why don't you use a polled bull? Save a lot of time on that amount

Hope everyone had a great Easter break and got a chance to enjoy the glorious weather that came with it, I almost had to break the shorts out it was that warm!
The end of another 4-day week which started with us dashing around on a few small jobs whilst we built up the stone stock at Kenilworth. King Kev was adding fert and grass seed to a rather large front garden near to the office, then onto rolling the outfield of a local cricket pitch. Cool Hand Luke was back over at Kenilworth titivating and tidying, backfilling trenches and installing vermin grids.
All back on track on Wednesday, full team back draining. A long day ensued so we could get the first phase of the works finished. With the first phase of the works out the way the client could start some tlc to his land before planting. The drainer was moved over ready for the next phase, but the tractors brought back to the yard yesterday to blow the dust off them, quick check around, a wash and polish.
They are needed elsewhere next week as we have some other works that are on the schedule but had to get the first phase of the drainage finished before anything else. It is a very busy time at the moment, but it’s always better to be busy than not
Today sees a couple of those jobs starting, Kev is off bund spraying for our neighbours, whilst Luke is trenching in a water pipe for another local estate. All very close to the yard and a nice way to finish the week which does seem to have been like a 9-day week even if it is only 4!!
Dilly Bob has been making a lot of hammering, welding and grinding noises this week, he has done a tidy job of putting depth marks on the layers for the new 15/15 as well as fabricating greedy boards for the hoppers. He also needed all his 40 plus year’s experience for a biscuit this week as I welded the biscuit tin up last weekend and although he managed to get into it, he did weld it back together to see if I would notice! Of course I would notice, he can weld!! I can blow holes, spatter, cable tie and duct tape!!
Been another good week lads, thank you all for the hard work and laughs along the way. Have a dam fine weekend and we will see you all on Monday to crack on again. Till then, stay safe and stay smiley
