Consolidates much easier than grass or maize.
Good to hear. We have the same issues around leaf loss. We try and rake with a dew on the leaves and anyone who can justify it has moved over the a roll bar rake as there ment to be the best of both worlds when raking. (Ie gentle on the leaves like a wheel rake, while working above the ground like a rotary rake).

I also love lucerne in the summer provides the stock with some green pick and few less bales for me to feed out.

Friday and what a glorious Friday it is Sunny, warm, and the promise of a fantastic weekend.

Monday saw all hands-on deck at Cheltenham Racecourse with Cool Hand Luke and King Kev leading the charge to finish off the topping up of the drain runs, tidy up and bring the kit back. It is always nice to receive praise for our work and a few days after we had finished at Cheltenham I received an e-mail from Mr Jon Pullin, the new Clerk to the Course at Cheltenham:

“Just a quick note to thank the team for getting the work done so efficiently. It looks a neat and tidy job”.

We have faith in our lads, but this is all credit them. They do what they do and they do it well, cheers guys.

Had a load more calls regarding leaking water pipes this week, what a headache it can be trying to locate the said leaks. Many places have no plans only “rough ideas” where the pipes were laid and in which direction they run, some have had several contractors install various pipes of differing materials and sizes over the years, these are our favourite!! But still, we crack on and do what we can. So, I say to you all, if you have having new water pipes put in, make a few notes, do a wee sketch, then leave it in the kitchen draw as you never know when that could save you a few quid. The very few plus points about chasing leaks in summer is that it is not winter, cold, wet minus 97 and you forgot your coat!

That was a public money saving and contractor headache prevention announcement.

Paul was on a job clearing up after a well know water company this week. A fair while back a sewage pump station had a bit of a gimp and stopped pumping. Needless to say, the ablutions of the local village it was serving spilt out over a field and contaminated the soil. The water company came in, fixed the pump and cleared up their mess but left the reinstatement of the waste soil removal the landowner. I understand that it took a lot of “toing and froing” to sort out who was supplying the reinstatement materials but after several months the client finally had the go-ahead. We had to flail our way into the area first before importing nearly 100 tonnes of soil from another area to bring the levels back to pre-pump station breakdown! Tidy little job and a rather tidy little finish to.

Boss Man Chris has been spilt between running around, catching up with people and breaking out the D5. He had a call from a previous client to ask if we could level off an area that is destined to be a temporary car park ready for a new agricultural building. Nice to see the D5 out stretching its legs though.

DillyBob went home with a poorly body on Monday. Unusual for DillyBob as he is a stalwart when it comes to being poorly and missing work. Early reports were the mix of chocolate digestives and macaroons had put his body into shock. But it transpires that he has picked up a proper Miley Cirus. Now as you all know I am not a gossip but, we have had it on good authority that Cyrus the virus is doing the rounds in the local village. We have also been told that it hits the ladies harder than the men. . . I have nothing more to add to that!! On a different point, does anyone want to buy some biscuits cheap, we seem to have missed the usual squirreling away this week and I forgot to cancel DillyBob artic delivery, so the cupboard is about to burst!!

Get well soon DillyBob and our sympathies to Mrs DillyBob who is on Nursing duties.

Thanks for the hard work lads, nice job at Cheltenham. Have a great weekend you crazy kids, enjoy the sun and see you all (hopefully) Monday. Till then, stay safe and stay smiley.

Spent this morning kicking out some grass with a tedder that’s older than me.

Went over to gather bales through supposedly empty fields and found one of my ewes and her lambs. The rest are weaned so I guess she’s a super mum.
